Senior School
It’s been a busy start to the term in the Senior Centre.
We started the term with practice exams for our scored Year 12 students whilst our VCE VM and unscored VCE students were busily finishing off the last of their work requirements to finish their time in the classroom at Koonung. The Year 11students came back to school with the realisation that they only had 5 weeks of class time to go before their exams and the Year 10s were gearing up to finish their first year in the senior school.
In week three, we had a whole school celebration of our graduating class of 2024, starting with the celebration breakfast for our Year 12s and their families. A big thank you is extended to the PFA, the Mont Albert and Surrey Hills Rotary Club and Breadstreet Bakery for their support. Breakfast was followed by a whole school assembly in the hall where each student was presented to the student body and presented with a certificate. The day finished with our Valedictory Dinner at Cathies Lane Reception Centre in a fitting send off for our Year 12 students.
Since then, our first cohort of VCE VM students have graduated Year 12 in what is a milestone moment for the school. Well done to those students for choosing this pathway and for following it through. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Earle, Ms Tomic, Ms Sens, Ms Siomis and Mr Sheehan, who have given incredible support to the VM cohort this year.
Congratulations also to those unscored VCE students who have completed their coursework in the last couple of weeks. Both of these sets of students can now look forward to the wide open road that leads to their future selves outside of school.
The rest of our Year 12 cohort are now in the midst of their end of year exams. For these students, remember to study hard, keep talking to your family and friends, eat, sleep, drink lots of water and do something everyday that makes you happy. If you can do this then you can be satisfied that when all of this comes to an abrupt end in the next week or two, you have done the best that you could. I also wish all the best to those Year 11 students who are undertaking a Unit 3/4 subject this year and who are also sitting their end of year exam.
Moving forward, our Year 11s and 10s will shortly be moving into their exam periods. I wish them well and urge them to use these exams as practice for Year 12. The exam timetable will be released shortly.
Following their exams the Year 11 cohort will come back to school for a week to complete the Edge program as a head start for Year 12 before finishing. The Year 10 cohort will finish in the same week depending on the date of their last exam. Therefore, all Year 11 and 10 students will finish school in week 8, no later than 29 November.

To mark the end of a successful year of learning, the Year 11 VM and VPC students had a barbeque at Box Hill Gardens on the afternoon of the 29th October. Students caught the bus to the gardens, where the group cooked up some sausages in bread for lunch, kicked the footy, climbed to the tops of the playground and bantered over a game of Would You Rather. The Year 11 VM and VPC students are to be commended for their hard work and achievements this year. Each student brought a positive attitude to the classroom and we thank them for always representing the Koonung Secondary College’s VM program with pride.
