Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden with 3/4D

The five weeks with 3/4D have gone extremely well and the students are becoming proficient gardeners and chefs.  We have worked hard in the garden to plant a variety of spring vegetables such as cucumbers, silverbeet, beetroot, capsicum, tomatoes, snow peas and lettuce.

Last year when we were awarded one of the Best Edible Garden awards, I received $1000 to purchase more plants at Diacos nursery.  In addition to buying some Native Edible Bush Tucker plants, I purchased more fruit trees for our orchard.  Unfortunately, our current orchard is quite full, so our wonderful maintenance man Rod cleared the space near the sheds and we have put them there.   Their beautiful spring blossoms have started flowering and I hope in the future they bring lots of yummy fruit the students will be able to enjoy in the kitchen.  Our compost bays have also been busy and we have used some of the nutrient rich soil the worms have created to top up our vegetable gardens.  We are so lucky all these food scraps get turned into dark brown, beautiful soil.

Thanks to the beautiful Mums and Nannas for helping us with 3/4D. They have been Nana (Leon’s Mum), Jess (Christopher’s Mum), Rosie (Lewis’ Mum), Sherry (Jeremy’s Mum), Sharn (Mimi’s Mum) and Rita (Max’s Nanna). If you would like to help 3/4D in the kitchen, please message me via Seesaw.

Arigatou!
