Book Week & Principal's Reading Challenge

Book Week

What a fun and memorable week we had celebrating Book Week at EHPS.

Throughout the week, the staff were able to borrow the CBCA 2025 shortlisted books to read in their classrooms. There were so many beautiful books and in a couple of weeks, they will be available in our school library for students to borrow.

The school library was buzzing with activity during each lunchtime, with many students coming in to participate in some Book Week themed activities, have some quiet reading time or be a part of a storytime hosted by various staff members.

Last Monday from 2.30pm to 3pm, the whole school stopped and had a simultaneous reading time. With blue skies and the sun shining, teachers and students spread out across the school both indoors and outdoors to enjoy some dedicated time to read their favourite books.

On Wednesday, we held our annual Book Week Dress up Day, where EHPS students and staff were invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. The staff theme this year was ‘Where is the Green Sheep?’. We shared all our fabulous costumes at a whole school parade on Wednesday morning which was hosted by the Library captains. It was amazing to have so many of the EHPS community come along and celebrate in the morning.

The Reading Out Of Poverty (ROOP) fundraiser is still going to run for one more week, so we would encourage any families who have not been able to make a donation and would like to, to donate using the link attached. So far the school has raised $240.

Principal's Reading Challenge

The annual Principal’s Reading Challenge is taking place during Term 3. All students are encouraged to participate.

  • Prep to Year 2 students will enjoy listening to storybooks in the classroom with the target of 30 books.
  • Years 3 to 6 students will have the opportunity to read their own choice of books and keep a record over the term.

Certificates will be awarded at the end of Term 3 to recognise the reading achievements of the students.

We hope students will enjoy taking part in the challenge!

The CBCA Children's Book Week

Children’s Book Week is The CBCA’s key highlight national event of the year. This year’s celebration will run from Saturday 16 to Saturday 23 August.

The 2025 theme is Book an Adventure!

The feature artist for the year, Jess McGeachin, has brilliantly captured this adventurous spirit in his artwork, which features a whimsical map filled with imaginary characters. Jess’ illustration invites young readers to embark on fantastical journeys, inspiring them to travel through the worlds that books open up. As an award-winning Australian picture book illustrator, Jess’ work encourages children to imagine, explore, and create their own adventures.

2025 is also a milestone year for CBCA as they celebrate 80 years of Children’s Book Week! For eight decades, CBCA has been dedicated to inspiring young minds to journey through the countless worlds that books offer. Jess’ imaginative artwork reflects this mission perfectly, encouraging children to set off on adventures through time, lands, and imagination. CBCA look forward to continuing this mission for the next 80 years and beyond!
