Prep 100 Days

This week our Prep students marked a very special milestone — their 100th day of school! To celebrate, students took photos of what they would look like when they are old, made colourful crowns, and explored the number 100 through a variety of fun activities. They counted collections to 100, created fruit loop necklaces, and enjoyed a slice of cake to finish the day. It was a joyful celebration full of smiles, laughter, and learning!

What’s Happening This Term at Rochester Primary School

We’re off to a fantastic start this term at Rochester Primary School, with lots of exciting learning and events happening across all year level. This week we were thrilled to be celebrating a big milestone – 100 Days of School for our Prep students! Mr. Ross and Mrs. Pascoe had some fantastic celebrations planned, and each Prep student received a special memento, lovingly created by Sandra. What a wonderful way to mark this achievement!

In Numeracy, the whole school is focusing on shape. Our Prep students are beginning by exploring basic 2D shapes, while students in Grades 5 and 6 are investigating complex 3D shapes and their properties. As the term progresses, we’ll move into number concepts before finishing the term with a unit on time.

In Literacy, all classes are working on reading and writing to inform. This unit helps students learn how to find facts and share them clearly with an audience – an essential life skill that also supports their development as thoughtful and confident communicators.

Our theme focus for this term is Geography across the school, with an additional Science focus for our P–2 students. To help bring these subjects to life:

Our Prep to Grade 2 students are looking forward to a visit to the Museum, where they’ll explore real-life examples of what they’re learning in class.

Our Grade 3–6 students kicked off the term with an exciting incursion. They had the opportunity to complete 2 STEM sessions that were provided by the Victorian Space Science Education Centre.

One of the activities had the students designing and creating their very own water rockets. They had to think about what would be the best design to make them fly the best. They then had to decide how much water they were going to put in their bottle and how much they would pump the bottle up. The results were incredible, with some students launching their rocket onto or even over the Secondary College roof!

The other activity was looking at how creatures have made adaptations to help them survive. Students got to check out fossils of some extinct creatures and look through microscopes at some tiny creatures. How some creatures have adapted to their environment is incredible.

The sessions were fantastic fun and it was great to hear so many positive comments from the instructors about how well the children behaved and how engaged they all were with their work.

It’s shaping up to be a term full of learning, exploration, and celebration. We can’t wait to see the growth and achievements of our students over the coming weeks!
