NAIDOC week
As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, our school proudly held a traditional Smoking Ceremony to honour and acknowledge the culture, strength, and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Led by Robyn Collard and her family, the ceremony welcomed us to Country, cleansed the space, and reminded us of the deep cultural connection First Nations people have with the land. We were also honoured to welcome an Aboriginal dance group for our Year 9 and 10s, who shared their culture, stories, and connection to Country through traditional and contemporary dance and song. This was more than just dance—it was a vibrant expression of culture, identity, and storytelling that connected us to the rich histories and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We thank the performers for generously sharing their stories, spirit, and time with us. It was a privilege to witness their artistry and to learn more about the enduring strength and pride of First Nations cultures. Our Year 12 student councillors, Leeshani and Darshyn, led a thoughtful Yarning Circle with Raquel, Cheroke, and Leteisha, demonstrating insight and respect, with our student leadership group in attendance. Overall, it was a fantastic week of celebrating Aboriginal culture and thanking all of our guests for taking the time to speak and perform for us.
