Updates  |  Year 7 Band Program  |  Performance videos and student photos

A big musical hello from the Cheltenham Secondary Music Department.

We have kicked off Term 3 with a few changes in the music area. Firstly, the music rooms are now exclusively available to music students during recess and lunchtimes, allowing them to focus on their practice without any disruptions. Secondly, there is to be strictly no food consumption in the music rooms. Instruments and crumbs don’t mix, and music staff would prefer not to be picking up your lunch off the floor. The glory days are over!

We had some great talent perform for us at Open Mic on Friday 1st August to conclude Arts Week (videos below!). Lots of students put their names down on the list, and it was a very successful day.

We will be holding more Open Mic sessions for the remainder of the year, so keep an eye out for the sign-up sheets and make sure you book in for the opportunity to perform your favourite song and have some fun!

Our September Soiree will be held in the last week of Term 3 on Wednesday 17th September 2025. Starting at 6.30pm and concluding around 8.30pm. Mark your calendar!

Year 7 Band Program -  Inspiring Young Musicians!

Our Semester 2 Year 7 Band Program is officially underway, and the music room is buzzing with excitement! This dynamic program gives Year 7 students the opportunity to learn a musical instrument - many for the very first time. Whether it’s the trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, French horn or euphonium, students are supported every step of the way as they discover the joy of playing music.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the program is watching students who may have never even considered playing an instrument begin to find their confidence and rhythm. Over the course of the semester, they build foundational skills, learn to read music, and gradually work towards performing full ensemble pieces as a large band.

It is a fantastic introduction to music education that not only builds musical ability but also encourages teamwork, perseverance, and creativity. We are proud to offer such a rich and engaging opportunity as part of our Year 7 curriculum, and we can not wait to see what this group achieves by the end of the Semester!
