Grade 3S
Wow – what a wonderful start to Term 3 our Grade 3 students have had! Their enthusiasm for learning has been truly inspiring, and it’s been lovely to see how well they’ve retained what we’ve already covered in literacy and mathematics.
This term, we’re diving into two fantastic novels. We’re currently reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, and in the second half of the term, we’ll be privileged to explore the beautiful story of Charlotte’s Web. Student engagement during our novel studies is always a highlight of our morning learning sessions. The rich discussions and vocabulary that emerge from these stories have been incredibly rewarding.
To support our reading of The Iron Man, students are currently writing an information report about iron. They’ve shown great interest in learning where iron comes from and how it’s used today. While we continue to develop our writing structure as a class, it’s been amazing to see more and more students discovering their own voice in their writing.
In Mathematics, we’ve already explored sorting raw data sets and have begun developing our skills using spreadsheets on our classroom devices. Students have enjoyed learning this new skill set, and we look forward to continuing our purposeful use of technology. Additionally, we’ve been working on addition and subtraction of three-digit numbers. We’ve amazed ourselves with how manageable this has become—even when regrouping ones and tens! Using MAB blocks has really boosted our confidence, and the class has thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on learning.
Last week, we were incredibly proud of all the students who began their sacramental journey of Reconciliation. A special congratulations to Sasha, Matilda, and Maeve from our class who have taken this meaningful step.
As we continue through the term, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. 📧 rsinclair@olwangaratta.catholic.edu.au
