This week, our Year 12 students marked a major milestone—just 100 days until graduation! To celebrate, they dressed up in fun and creative outfits, bringing energy and excitement to our College as they look ahead to the final stretch of their secondary school journey.
Please see letter below with all the important information as our Year 12 students finish their last year of secondary school.
All senior year levels held informative assemblies during the first weeks of Term 3. Lots of information was provided and expectations set for the term.
Year 12 were given information on VTAC opening, and information around end of year celebrations. Since the assembly, all Year 12 students continue to have Careers/VTAC chats with staff in the senior hub.
Year 11 students were given information about Study Camp to be held from the 14th to 16th November. Students were also advised that College Captains applications will opening soon and submissions for the Year 12 jumper has opened this week.
20 Year 12 VCE students attended the Deakin University information session, which included a past student of BSC, Amber Smith.
The students from Unit 4 Outdoor and Environmental Studies have been studying the importance of the health of the Mitchell River catchment this term. They travelled to the southern end of the Mitchell River National Park and observed the environment around the Mitchell River weir, built in 1891. Then they investigated the park around Angusvale, and after seeing kangaroos, wombats, wallabies, blue wrens and other beautiful nature, they played a game of hide and seek. As you can see from the photo they were really good at it!! Too soon it was time to go and fortunately all the students were found, just in time to head back to school.
Our students made Soba noodles with Asian dressing and spicy Shaanxi-style stir-fry lamb and celery. Mikayla made Vegetable and tofu stir-fry.
Year 10 students who selected VET Electrotechnology for next year had the opportunity to visit the AGA Trade school in preparation for the course. Students had the opportunity to create their own extension cords and observe second-year students in action. Year 12 VM student Oliver impressed by demonstrating how to safely attach a wall socket, giving younger students a glimpse into the practical skills involved in the trade.
Our Year 12 Personal Development Skills students have been working hard on a wide range of community-based projects that are looking to make a real impact across the wider Bairnsdale community.
From sizzling burger and lasagne fundraisers to a student-led footy clinic, pet food drive, and handcrafted dog treats, their creativity and compassion have shone through. Students have also planned to contribute to land care through replanting and weeding, assembled emergency supply kits for a local women’s shelter, and building a calming rock garden for a nearby primary school.
Other standout projects include a frog hotel to support biodiversity, a community cookbook created by and for the Melba Support Centre, food donations for those in need, and support for Meals on Wheels.
These projects reflect the students’ commitment to inclusion, wellbeing, and practical action. We’re incredibly proud of their initiative, teamwork, and the positive change they’re creating, one project at a time.
Study sessions on Wednesday and Thursday after school continue to be popular. Students are welcome to stay back after school and study with the help of many teachers available.
Study sessions take place in the Malgobila LRC on a Wednesday and Thursday from 3.15 pm to 5.00 pm. All students from all year levels are welcome to attend.
