Sporting News

This term, students across all year levels are engaging in a comprehensive unit focused on basketball relatedskills. The program has been designed to build confidence, coordination, and collaboration through a series of structured lessons and activities that target key areas of the game.

Students are developing and refining the following fundamental skills:

  • Dribbling: Improving ball control while moving and changing direction with both hands.
  • Passing: Practising a variety of passes including: chest, bounce, overhead and one handed passes, with an emphasis on accuracy and timing.
  • Shooting: Learning the correct shooting technique and applying it in game scenarios such as lay-ups and set shots.
  • Defence: Understanding positioning, movement, and how to apply pressure without fouling.
  • Rebounding: Anticipating the ball's trajectory and gaining possession through well-timed jumps and spatial awareness.

Each PE session includes warm-ups, skill rotations, and small-sided games that provide students with opportunities to apply their learning in fun and engaging ways. Activities like Hoop Ball and Dribble Escape encourage students to think tactically, work cooperatively, and respond dynamically to game situations.

Upcoming Sporting Events – Term 3

Our senior and middle year students will also have the opportunity to represent the school in several inter-school sporting events. These are valuable experiences that promote school pride, teamwork, and sportsmanship:

  • Week 6 (Friday 29 August): Year 5/6 District Basketball
  • Week 8 (Wednesday 10 September): Year 3/4 Hooptime Basketball
  • Week 9 (Wednesday 17 September): Year 5/6 Hooptime Basketball

These events are a fantastic way for students to showcase their skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.

We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience, and sportsmanship students are demonstrating in PE this term. As we continue to develop both individual abilities and team dynamics, the focus remains on creating a positive and inclusive space where every student can succeed and enjoy being active.
