Senior School News

Miss Chelsea Perrin & Mr Tom Brophy

It has been another busy and exciting term for our Year 5/6 students!

In Week 3, students participated in the Inform and Empower incursion on cyber safety, where they explored how to stay safe and responsible online. They also enjoyed a range of sporting opportunities, including Boys Netball, Girls Football, and NFL Flag. Both our Football and Flag teams achieved 2nd place – an outstanding effort.

In Week 4, our Year 5/6s joined the school community to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption Mass, reflecting together in faith and prayer. They participated beautifully.

Week 5 brought even more highlights, with students ready to dress up and celebrate their love of reading during Book Week. Our Year 5s attended Young Leaders Day at the Boroondara Arts Centre, where they began thinking about their own leadership journeys. Meanwhile, our Year 6s took another important step in their faith journey, committing to their preparation for Confirmation at the Confirmation Commitment Mass.

Alongside these special events, our students have been working hard across all learning areas:

  • Literacy: Students completed a novel study of Once, as well as an information report on Poland. They strengthened their grammar skills, focusing on conjunctions, nominalisation, and punctuating split speech. Next week, we begin The Grandest Bookshop in the World and will move into narrative writing, building on the foundations from Term 1.
  • Mathematics: We are wrapping up our unit on decimals this week. Students have developed their knowledge of place value, rounding, and the four operations, and have represented decimals visually while applying them to real-world problems. Next week, we will begin exploring angles.

  • Religious Education: Students have engaged in rich discussions around the parables of The Narrow Door (reminding us that making good, faith-filled choices is not always easy but always rewarding) and The Rich Fool (a reflection on valuing kindness and generosity over material possessions). Year 5s and non-confirming Year 6s have begun their Spirit-Filled Role Model presentations, while our confirming Year 6s are researching their chosen saint.

  • Inquiry: In Science, our focus has been on the States of Matter. Students explored their properties, reversible and irreversible changes, and considered Indigenous understandings of these states in connection to the seven Wurundjeri seasons.

The Year 5/6 students continue to show great enthusiasm, participation, and leadership across all areas of school life.
