Principal Message
Welcome back to students and staff to a very busy Term 3. Lots of activities, programs and learning opportunities for our students this term.
We are in the middle of our school review and have had several staff, parent and student forums where the School Review Team gathered information about the College over the last 4 years. We have also had our own ‘review’ where student leaders on the Sydenham Campus shared their survey findings with staff at a campus meeting.
Students spoke about a range of topics that are important to them, and they wanted to share their survey findings with staff. Thank you to Mr Moyer and Ms Hatton for their care and support of the student leaders.
Last newsletter we drew attention to the importance of regular school attendance, and the impact that absences can have on student achievement and well being. We are pleased to share that all Teams have rewarded their highest attendance by Connect group for semester 1 and in this newsletter we are showcasing the E Team winners who were rewarded with a pizza party at the end of term 2.
Well done to the students of 7E2 and their Connect teacher Ms Altas!
Year 7 and 8 Semester 1
Year 8 Snow Day:
On Monday July 28th, our Year 8 students attended Lake Mountain Alpine Resort. This year, there was lots of snow and the students were amazed how white Lake Mountain was when they arrived. Our students had lots of fun and were able to make snowmen and use the toboggans down the slope. Overall, the students were able to bond with their peers and make great memories on the day.
Year 7 Melbourne Zoo Visit:
As a part of the year 7 science adaptation and classification unit year 7 students are given the opportunity to head to Melbourne Zoo to get to put their learning into practice. ‘When we first arrived, we started the day by going around in class groups and viewing the attractions at the zoo. Around midday we were given the chance to go through a lesson run by the zookeepers where students could observe and touch animal skulls and use them to make predictions about the animals they belong to. ‘ Then after a short lunch break students got into their assignment groups where they went off around the zoo and tried to find an animal, they were going to observe for their research assignment. They were looking into the animals physical and behavioural traits, habitats and some fun facts, on the way they had freedom to explore the zoo and have a wonderful time.
Year 7 Camp
In early Term 2, Our Year 7 students had an unforgettable experience at Campaspe Downs, filled with laughter, adventure, and plenty of opportunities to connect with one another. Over the course the of the camp, students participated in a variety of exciting activities that challenged them to step out of their comfort zones and work together as a team. Beyond the fun, camp provided a valuable chance for our Year 7 cohort to build new friendships and strengthen existing ones.
Year 9/10 Semester 1
Year 10s from Sydenham had a chance to experience the Delahey campus in the last week of Term 2. They were introduced to the several key staff members which included the Campus Leaders, Team Leaders, Wellbeing and Careers counsellors. They were then taken on a tour of the school and shown the various sections of the campus to begin their preparation for a smooth transition to Delahey Campus
NAIDOC Celebration Day – 25th July
Sydenham students along with first nations students across the school network, contributed artwork to a NAIDOC Week Display at Watergardens during the school holidays.
The 2025 NAIDOC Week Theme was The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy. At Copperfield we are inspired by the voice of our young people and are proud to see them share their strength and vision with the community.
Thank you to Mr Moyer and Ms Hatton for their leadership and connections with our regional Koorie support Team.
PPU (Proactive Police Unit) Presentation
Officers from the Proactive Police Unit in Caroline Springs visited Copperfield College to deliver a presentation to discuss the challenges facing young people in our society. There were conversations around gang violence, drug abuse and a range of other issues that are causing young people to face unpleasant consequences. The students were very engaged and had plenty of questions at the end of the presentation.
Year 9 students went on an ABCN ‘Future Thinkers’ excursion where they worked on understanding the principles of Design Thinking. This involved building confidence in coming up with creative solutions to problems, communicating ideas effectively to others and feeling comfortable developing relationships with others
The feedback survey results showed that all our students felt that they had achieved the objectives of the program. It was a highly productive and insightful day for them.

Japanese Sister School Visit- Mt Fuji Junior High School
Our College was very pleased to host staff and students from Fuji Junior High School last week.
Students and staff engaged in a range of educational and cultural activities throughout their stay.
Principal Saito with Year 12 Japanese students helping them practice conversational skills for their Oral exam.
Gift exchange from Fuji to Copperfield, and Copperfield to Fuji Junior High School.
It was a pleasure to recipricate the hospitality shown to us last year by Principal Saito, Vice Principal Natsuko Yoneyama (who returned to Copperfield after her first trip to Australia 20 years ago) and PE Teacher Tomoya Kawabata. It was also a special time for the 2024 Fuji Study Trip students, many of whom hosted FJHS students, to reconnect with their Japanese counterparts. A special thank you to all the staff at Copperfield who helped with the planning, organising and running of the visit.
