Farewell from Brad

To the wonderful MITS community, below is the poem I read out at our Celebration Dinner last Thursday evening. It has become a tradition for me to write an end of year poem for the Year 7 and 8 students and to read it at the Celebration evening.
This poem is my last as the MITS principal, as I have decided to move on after 10 years. Thanks to all the families and students who have trusted me to play a small part in your educational journey. And a huge thank you to all the amazing people associated with MITS, I look forward to watching on as a proud supporter of MITS in the future... enjoy the poem!
2025 at MITS brought changes, both big and small,
Year 7 and 8 co-located for the first time, sharing one fancy renovated medical hall.
From Richmond Footy Club and High School new adventures we eyed,
In Term 1 we moved to Trinity Grammar, where new paths we tried.
Then home at 283 Church Street in Term 2, a campus of our own, so bold,
With teachers arriving, some new, some old.
Weddings, babies, engagements and adventures to embark,
So much has happened since the year’s first spark!
Vicky and Rowie, sisters’ side by side,
Their bond at school fills us all with pride.
Tyrone dazzles with skills on the footy field,
His energy and talent seldom concealed.
Harry sets out for Scotch next year, blazing a trail,
The first from MITS, new heights he will scale.
RJ, Cata, Lexi and Hayley are always early to arrive,
First at school in Kew and now Richmond, ready to thrive.
Christello and Jermaine, responsible captains with style,
Their Gala speeches thoughtful and extremely worthwhile.
Nick and Greg, never missing a shot,
First and last on the basketball court, giving all they’ve got.
Jaydah, our friendly leader, always demonstrates care,
Guiding her group with a warmth that’s rare.
Josie designed boots for Samson Ryan’s feet,
Her creativity making football even more sweet.
Anthony loves chess, a thinker and a fan,
But admits that beating me isn’t part of his plan.
Keelan welcomed all in the mid-year video, so clear,
Bringing smiles and connection as the school holidays drew near.
Bethany’s mornings, breakfast in hand,
Her cheerful greetings, a joy through the land.
Norah, our DJ, with music to play,
Her melodies brighten the classroom each day.
John’s pride shone bright, when his mum shared wisdom here too,
A family’s connection, heartfelt and true.
Trishorna found joy with SEDA on the soccer field,
Her initial reluctance soon joyfully healed.
Jordan and Curtis dash fast on the run,
Touch rugby experts, always having fun.
Chanellia shows care for each friend she meets,
Her kindness and warmth make our group feel complete.
Brycen’s the helper, with vacuum in tow,
His tidying up has our classroom aglow.
Jarlan and Zy, with voices so clear,
Shared the story of our MUMA project, inspiring to hear.
Alex and Denzel, school attendance first-rate,
Not missing a day, always prompt, never late.
Lennisha, though quiet, was fierce on the field,
Her football skills at the MCG she revealed.
Taiyanah, with smiles, and a love of the Bombers in football,
Her friendly hellos are cherished by all.
Jonah’s love for basketball, Lamelo his star,
On the court and in class, he’s sure to go far.
Josh with detail drew many totems, in an artwork so fine,
Sharing culture with his classmates, their talents combine.
MJ and Mya, so strong and so brave,
Public speaking or on the sports field they’ll give you a wave.
Yalarna and Armani, ready to lend a hand,
With helpfulness offered wherever they stand.
Tobias loves the Yidaki, the rhythms resound,
His music and spirit in our hearts are found.
Evan and Marius, grown in ways profound,
At school they found new strengths and friends all around.
Anneleya, Jude, Sharona, Kiyomi, Drae and Hannah, we miss you, it’s true,
Though you’ve moved on, we’ll remember you too.
This poem hits differently, my last one at MITS,
I will miss you all dearly and love you to bits.
Whatever our journey I know I will see you again,
This has been a huge part of my life, signing off after 10!
