Year 6 News

Year 6 has had an exciting and energetic start to the year, and it has been wonderful to see our students step confidently into their final year of primary school. There is a real sense of enthusiasm as we look ahead to the leadership roles and responsibilities that come with being our senior students, as well as the many fun excursions and incursions planned for the year ahead.
We also enjoyed a fantastic Wellbeing Week, filled with fun and engaging activities that encouraged connection, reflection and enjoyment. One very exciting moment for our students was receiving their new year 6 polo tops, which were worn with pride and really marked the beginning of their senior year.
Students enjoyed eating lunch and spending quality time with their Prep buddies, strengthening these important relationships. Our year 6 students have already shown great care and responsibility in looking after their buddies, and they are excited to continue supporting them and ensuring they feel settled and welcomed into life at St Columba’s.
To finish off the week, we headed out for a walk to the beach and playground, making the most of the sunshine and the chance to unwind together.
A highlight so far has been the organisation of the first St Columba’s Kids Sport event, proudly led by our year 6 students. Every student contributed ideas and suggestions, helping to shape the event and truly make it their own. The day was led by our Sports Captains, Issy and Archer, with fantastic support from committee members Claude and Iggy.
Students from across the school came together to participate in a range of fun and inclusive activities, including Gaga Ball, Footy Tennis, Just Dance and Fruit Salad. The atmosphere was filled with encouragement, teamwork and school spirit. Sportsmanship points were awarded to students who stood out for their positivity and encouragement of others and there were so many students cheering on their teams that it was incredibly difficult to choose just one! At the end of each game, points were tallied, but the true success of the day was the sense of community and joy shared by all.
We are incredibly proud of the leadership, initiative and kindness already shown by our year 6 cohort and are looking forward to a year filled with growth, connection and memorable experiences.
