Kanga Cricket Gala Day

Last week, our students took part in the Kanga Cricket Gala Day, playing Kanga 8s matches against students from Yarrawonga P–12 College

Tuesday – Year 5 & Year 6

Our Year 4 and Year 6 teams showed incredible determination and courage as they played through some truly terrible weather conditions. Despite the rain and wind, the students stayed positive, supported each other, and displayed excellent cricket skills.

Wednesday – Year 3 & Year 4

The following day brought much better weather, allowing our Year 3 and returning Year 4 students to enjoy a fantastic day of cricket in the sunshine. The students had a great time batting, bowling, and cheering on their teammates. Their enthusiasm and sportsmanship were outstanding throughout the day.

Well done to all students who participated — your behaviour, teamwork, and attitude represented our school beautifully.

Volleyball, 9 Square and SEPEP

Students throughout the school have been enjoying the 9 Square activities and Volleyball this term. Our Year 5 and 6 students are right in the middle of a Volleyball SEPEP unit where they have been placed in teams (Countries) and are enjoying some friendly competition in a fixtures season.

The SEPEP program aims to develop teamwork and cooperative skills through gameplay. However, we have also seen a dramatic improvement regarding the students Volleyball skills and game understanding.

Prep – Year 2 Swimming:

During Week 9 (Monday 1st December – Friday 5th December) all Prep – Year 2 students will be participating in a Water Familiarisation Program at Yarrwaonga Pool.

Students will travel by bus and will be put into groups with qualified Swimming teachers.

These lessons will hope to:

Building Confidence

Water familiarisation gives children the chance to explore the water in a calm and gentle way. Through guided play, floating, and basic movement skills, students learn to feel safe and relaxed in the pool. This early confidence helps reduce fear and builds trust in their own abilities.

Developing Essential Skills

Before formal swimming strokes are taught, children need to master skills such as:

  • Breath control
  • Floating on their front and back
  • Submerging safely
  • Kicking and basic propulsion
  • Understanding how water moves and supports the body
  • These foundations are essential for future swimming success.

Improving Water Safety Awareness

Australia has many rivers, lakes, beaches, and backyard pools, making water safety extremely important. Early exposure to water helps children learn:

  • How to enter and exit the pool safely
  • How to stay calm in water
  • The importance of listening to instructors and following safe routines
