Junior School Captain Interviews

This week, on Thursday, Mr MacLean, Mrs Bell, and I had the pleasure of interviewing our current Year 5 students for the position of School Captain. We really enjoyed listening to their ideas and what they might do to make our school even better. What a wonderful bunch of thoughtful, caring and kind leaders we will have in 2026. They displayed beautiful manners, were articulate, and, despite a few nerves, were well prepared and confident.  Well done to each student that has put themselves forward for the role.

This week I visited the Early Learning Centre where the Piccino students showed me what they have been doing.  Jason showed me what he could do on the monkey bars.  Some students were making delicious ‘sand’ pies.

In the Myrniong playground, when asking children to tell me something they enjoyed this week, Maths was a common theme as well as preparing the for drama showcase tomorrow.

“We’ve been learning about using 10s frames.  I use my 10s frames to count by 5s.  They help your brain be better, so you know 5 + 5 = 10. I like maths.”

 -  Clementine, Prep

“I have enjoyed learning body systems.  It is interesting and I have learned a lot.  Your biggest muscle is your buttocks.  There are 650 muscles in the human body and there are 206 bones in the human body.”

- Freya, Year 1

“I enjoyed Karate Maths.  It tests you to see if you have been practising fluency.  I am on a purple belt, which means I am doing well.”

Charlie, Year 2

“We were learning about chance; likely, unlikely, impossible and certain. We rolled the dice 20 times and made a tally. I liked working in groups to compare our results.  I rolled 2 the most.”

Chelsea, Year 3

“I have enjoyed practising for the ‘Come on Aussies’ part in the Drama Showcase. It is fun moving around in the dance with our cricket bats.  I like performing in a group because you won’t be scared with more people.”

- Fred, Year 4

“I enjoyed sport because we are practising tennis.  It helps me improve my hand/eye coordination for cricket. It’s fun playing against other people”.

Thomas, Year 5

“I liked learning the dance for the showcase.  I like dancing but I don’t like doing things by myself, so working in groups is good.   I am a bit nervous about performing but I think to myself, I know all of these people and I can do it.”

Alice, Year 6

Well done, Laidlaw House, for running a successful fundraiser to support the Fred Hollows Foundation.  They have been able to donate $498.20.  A tremendous effort.

Congratulations to the following students who will represent their House at next week’s assembly: Arya (Berry), Adelaide (Young), Patrick (Learmonth) and Elsie (Laidlaw).   All year 6 students are to be commended for delivering speeches of such a high standard.
