This Week At OOPS

On Monday the Preps had a visit from The Flying Bookworm Theatre Company where they saw their favourite fairytales brought to life. Not only did we see hilarious renditions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Ugly Duckling, and The Gigantic Turnip, but some of the students even got to test out their acting skills as some of the featured characters in the stories! Such a fun way to round out our fairytale unit this term.
OOPS Farmers Market
We are selling fresh produce from our garden after school today. Feel free to pop by and grab some lovely fresh vegetables, herbs or fruit for a gold coin donation.
The Preps had an absolute ball on Thursday as they celebrated the end of their Fairytale unit. Throughout the term, they explored a range of classic fairytales, unpacked the elements of a narrative, wrote their very own stories, and even designed creative solutions to fairytale problems alongside their Year 6 Buddies.
The Fairytale Ball was a definite highlight. Students proudly paraded their costumes before enjoying some lively dancing with their families and Year 6 Buddies. Afterwards, they hosted a Writer’s Expo back in their classrooms, where Prep families and students from across the school were invited to read the narratives they had written. Some visitors even walked away with a signed copy from our budding authors! The day wrapped up with a selection of fun fairytale-themed crafts.
What an exciting and magical way to finish the term!
Our Term 4 Wellbeing Day brought the whole school together to celebrate Ability Day and the International Day of People with Disabilities on Tuesday. The day focused on understanding, inclusion and recognising the strengths of people with visible and invisible disabilities.
Students took part in a range of cohort activities that highlighted empathy, diversity and respectful communication. Ruth and Jennifer created a collection of library resources for classes to explore, helping students learn about different disabilities through stories, videos and discussions.
A highlight of the day was our whole-school assembly, where Lewis from Year 3 bravely shared his experiences living with Neurofibromatosis. He spoke confidently about the importance of awareness and support, and how he is helping raise funds for the Flicker of Hope charity as part of our Colour Run on Monday December 15th. His message made a strong impact across the school community and we had Anne and Zoe from the charity also share their stories at the assembly.
There is no cure for NF. All funds raised goes directly to research, and a vitally important program to up skill doctors across the state. With so few specialists, there are hundreds of patients on wait-lists, and many have to travel long distances for care. Local doctors who can support care of people with NF, and diagnose early, will have a hugely positive impact on people with NF and their families. Lewis's parents, Jess and Tim are so grateful for the support of the school community.
Thank you to all staff and students who contributed to the organisation, learning and positive spirit of the day. Your efforts helped create a meaningful celebration of inclusion and respect and we can't wait to see how much money we can raise through the colour run and candles available for sale ($5) at the office.
