Teaching and Learning – Term 4

Throughout Term 4, Grade 5/6 students have been engaged in focused and purposeful learning across Literacy and Numeracy.

In Literacy, students studied the class novel The Grandest Bookshop. Through this text, students developed their sentence-level writing skills, with a particular focus on identifying key information, summarising ideas into key parts, and composing clear summary sentences. These skills supported students to improve their comprehension and written expression, allowing them to communicate ideas concisely and effectively.

In Numeracy, students focused on multiplication and division strategies. They explored a range of methods to efficiently solve problems, including breaking numbers apart, using known facts and applying strategies to check for accuracy. Students were encouraged to explain their thinking and select strategies that best suited the problem they were solving, building confidence and problem-solving skills.

Inquiry / OLA Projects (Other Learning Areas)

As part of their OLA (Other Learning Areas) studies, students have been focusing on a unit of Geography this term. Through this unit, students researched and delivered oral presentations on countries such as Japan, China and the United States of America.

A key focus of this learning was developing an understanding of Australia’s trade relationships with these countries and how global connections influence Australia’s economy and place in the world. Students demonstrated strong research skills, growing confidence in oral presentation and the ability to communicate information clearly to an audience.

Grade 6 Graduation

Our Grade 6 Graduation was a truly special evening. Students had a fantastic night celebrating their achievements with friends, family and staff. The event was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the growth, memories and milestones reached throughout their primary school journey.

We are incredibly proud of our Grade 6 students and the young people they have become. They should be proud of everything they have achieved during their time at Kilberry Valley Primary School.

Thank you to our amazing parents and Hampton Park Woolworths who donated items for the night.
