Sydney Trip - In Concert
On June 3rd, 21 of our talented ASC students had the incredible privilege to perform at the iconic Opera House as part of the NSW Public Schools Choir. Joined by over 1200 musicians and singers, and accompanied by the Public Schools State Symphony Orchestra, the concert featured a diverse range of music from traditional African to contemporary styles, showcasing remarkable skills and dedication.
A special thank you to our guest artist Lucy Durack, our supportive families who travelled to Sydney, and our amazing staff: Ms Pearson and Ms Moore for their dedication and care throughout this unforgettable 3-day excursion. We are so proud of our students representing ASC and the outstanding talent of our public school musicians!
Blue Tree Day at ASC
Our Year 12 leadership team ran a Blue Tree Day at school to raise funds for The Blue Tree Project, a mental health charity that helps spark difficult conversations about mental health and break down stigmas around asking for help. On the day, ASC students showed their support by wearing blue and buying treats from the Year 12 Bake sale. Additionally, with the assistance of Mr Suddaby and the Environmental Club, the students were able to sell cans of soft drink, whose proceeds also went towards the charity. A big thank you to everyone who baked for the cause and helped to sell. In total, the funds raised exceeded $1100! It was brilliant to see ASC showing their support for the Blue Tree Foundation.
7 White has started their Scrambled unit and their first Prac was eggciting.
Do you think they are discussing What came first .... the chicken or the egg? Or in this case .... what came first the egg or roast chicken?
ASC Boys Rugby League – Country Cup
ASC’s Under 14s and Under 16s rugby league teams went head-to-head with O’Connor Catholic College in the Country Cup, showcasing outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship.
The Under 14s impressed with their strong defence and sharp attacking plays, executing some excellent lines throughout the match. Their hard work paid off with a well-deserved win, securing their place in the next round of the competition in Tamworth in a few weeks’ time.
Our Under 16s battled through a tough, physical game. At full time, the score was tied 20-all, pushing the match into extra time. Despite a courageous effort, the boys went down by 6 points. They demonstrated incredible determination and resilience, especially after losing multiple players to injury and finishing the second half without a bench.
A big thank you to the Armidale Rams for providing their field and running the canteen all day. Thanks also to Trent and his team for refereeing and supporting the competition.
Congratulations to all ASC students who represented us today! Best of luck to the Under 14s as they head into the next round!
Our Year 12 Chemistry students recently attended the University of New England (UNE) for a day of HSC-focused chemistry enrichment and to compete in the Titration Competition.
Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to learn from lecturers and professors, use a range of advanced laboratory equipment, and become familiar with the university campus.
ASC students achieved outstanding results in the competition, placing 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th and 9th out of 15 teams from public and private schools across the region.
A huge congratulations to all students on their fantastic achievements and the way they represented ASC.
Thank you to the UNE Chemistry team for hosting such a valuable and engaging day, to Dr Greg Czaban, our Chemistry leader at ASC, and to the Academy of STEM Excellence for their support.
UNE Museum of Antiquities
Year 10 EAL/D students had a great time at the UNE Museum of Antiquities learning about the Ancient Near East. They created cuneiform writing with clay, made cylinder seal imprints, attempted to put together pottery sherds, and held several priceless artefacts from the Middle East, including some that were over 4000 years old. They also noticed many similarities between traditional Ezidi clothing and hats and the clothing of people in the ancient artwork. Thank you so much to UNE Museum of Antiquities for providing such a fantastic hands-on learning experience!
ASC shine with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra
Congratulations to our talented ASC students who participated in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Playerlink program in Armidale last weekend.
What an incredible opportunity to learn from and perform alongside professional musicians, developing both musical skills and confidence. We are so proud of your dedication, passion and commitment to music, and the way you represented our school throughout this inspiring experience.
A huge congratulations to Edden Kanety, Bridget Kelly, Alma Kanety, Emelia Kelly, Jay Gates, Ayalla Kanety and Saho Brown pictured here with Timothy Constable, their conductor for the weekend.
Year 8 EAL/D Students Visit NERAM
Our Year 8 EAL/D Parallel Classes recently visited the New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) as an introduction to their upcoming English unit, Framing the Future.
Students explored The Neighbour at the Gate exhibition, which examines identity, belonging and cultural diversity, before taking part in a creative workshop where they made paper water lilies and incense holders inspired by the artworks.
The excursion gave students a valuable opportunity to connect with the themes they will explore next term while developing their creativity and understanding of different perspectives.
A big thank you to Anne from NERAM for leading such an engaging tour and workshop. Our students had a fantastic day.
