Senior School Athletics Carnival

On Thursday 29 May, Trinity Anglican College students travelled to the Les O'Brien Athletics Track for the annual Senior School Athletics Carnival. Despite cold temperatures and challenging weather conditions throughout the day, student enthusiasm was not dampened, with an outstanding attendance rate of over 87% and excellent participation across all events.

The carnival showcased the spirit, determination and sportsmanship of our students, with competitors giving their all in both track and field events. The strong participation levels contributed to a highly competitive House competition, with points being earned throughout the day in both competitive and novelty events.

Congratulations to Rosborough House, who were crowned 2026 Athletics Champions, narrowly holding off Kelton House in a closely contested competition.

A special thank you must also go to the staff, student officials and volunteers whose efforts ensured the day ran smoothly despite the difficult weather conditions. The carnival was a fantastic showcase of school spirit and athletic achievement, and we look forward to seeing many of our students represent Trinity at upcoming BISSA, RAS and CIS athletics events.

Opens AFL Gala Day

The Opens Boys team, coached by Mr David Miles and assisted by Noah Rowston, finished the day with a strong 2–1–1 record. The boys recorded impressive wins over Murray High School and Billabong High School, drew with Moama Anglican Grammar, and suffered their only defeat against Xavier High School.

Chase Singe was a standout leader throughout the day, setting the standard with his effort and composure. Lewis Kreutzberger was phenomenal across all four matches. Coach Miles jokingly remarked that Lewis may have a future in the AFL once his Olympic swimming career is over. His work in the ruck and across half-back was reminiscent of AFL star Max Gawn, consistently winning contests and driving the ball forward for his team.

The Opens Girls team, coached by Ms Kirrily Boyd, showed significant improvement as the day progressed and were highly competitive throughout the tournament. Their closest contest came against Moama Anglican Grammar, where they controlled much of the play and spent the majority of the game in their forward half. Despite their dominance, a late goal saw them narrowly defeated by a single point.

Coach Boyd was particularly impressed with the efforts of Indi Prince, who worked tirelessly across the day. The highlight of the tournament, however, belonged to Lyndal Thompson. In a moment that had teammates and spectators on their feet, Lyndal gathered possession on the wing, broke through a tackle, took two bounces, sidestepped an opponent and surged forward in a brilliant individual passage of play. While the final kick inside 50 didn't quite come off, it was undoubtedly one of the most exciting moments of the day.

While the girls finished with an 0–3 record, the results did not reflect their effort, determination and growth across the tournament. Both teams represented Trinity with pride and should be commended for their sportsmanship and commitment throughout the day.

Bill Turner Cup – Round 4

The Trinity Under 15 Boys Soccer team has done it again, securing their place in the Riverina Grand Final with an impressive 2–0 victory over Deniliquin High School in Round 4 of the Bill Turner Cup.

The team made the 2.5-hour journey to Deniliquin for what proved to be a hard-fought and physical 60-minute contest. The long bus trip appeared to contribute to a slow start, with both teams evenly matched through the opening stages of the game. However, as the match settled, Trinity began to take control and showcase their quality.

The breakthrough came courtesy of an outstanding run from centre-back Lucas Mordecai, who drove forward from defence and earned a penalty kick. Calm under pressure, Trinity converted from the spot to take a deserved 1–0 lead.

The boys continued to apply pressure throughout the remainder of the first half, launching repeated attacks and forcing Deniliquin's defence to work tirelessly. Their persistence was eventually rewarded when Jack Steinhauser finished off a well-worked team move, capitalising on a string of connected passes through the midfield to double Trinity's advantage.

Despite a scoreless second half, there was no shortage of drama. Trailing by two goals, Deniliquin pushed their strongest players forward in a final attempt to claw their way back into the match. Trinity's defence, however, stood firm. Goalkeeper Ziggy Clift was outstanding between the posts, while composed defender Cooper Scott helped organise the backline and repel every attacking threat that came their way.

The final whistle confirmed a well-earned 2–0 victory and another outstanding performance from the boys.

The win sees Trinity advance to the Riverina Grand Final, where they will compete for a place in the NSW Final Four. Congratulations to all players and coaches on a fantastic achievement, and we wish them the very best in their next match.

Basketball NSW – Opens Division

Our two Division 1 girls teams were dominant throughout the tournament, with their only losses coming against each other - once during the pool rounds and again in the Grand Final. Trinity Blue finished the day with an impressive 3–1 record, while Trinity White ultimately took home the title after a hard-fought Grand Final victory.

When the game was on the line, Phoebe Rowston proved why big players step up in big moments. Coming out of semi-retirement to represent the school, Phoebe put on a shooting clinic, knocking down six second-half three-pointers to lead Trinity White to victory and leave the opposition with no answers. Lily Wright, Ava Lowe, Lucy Hocking and Molly Collins were also outstanding contributors throughout the day, playing key roles in their teams' success.

The boys teams faced a challenging draw from the outset, opening the tournament against the 2025 Australian School Championships Under 17 Gold Medalists. Despite the quality of the opposition, Trinity competed strongly, led by the composure and leadership of Rylan Fraser. Lewis Kreutzberger was a dominant presence throughout the day, using his size and strength to great effect on both ends of the court.

The boys came agonisingly close to securing a Grand Final berth in a thrilling clash against undefeated Mater Dei. Trinity raced out to an early 12-point lead and looked in control for much of the contest. However, late foul trouble for school captain Rylan Fraser, combined with some outstanding shot-making from Mater Dei, saw the game pushed into overtime. Despite a courageous effort, Trinity was unable to capitalise in the extra period, falling just short of what would have been a remarkable upset victory.

Both the girls and boys teams represented Trinity with great pride, competitiveness and sportsmanship throughout the day.

Cruz Wayenberg - Softball

Congratulations to Cruz Wayenberg on his recent selection and participation in the NSW Team at the School Sport Australia Softball Championships.

The championships showcased some of the best school-aged softball talent from across the country, with strong competition, excellent teamwork and plenty of exciting moments throughout the week. Cruz represented NSW with pride, contributing to a successful campaign that saw the team progress to the gold medal match.

After a hard-fought final against Queensland, NSW finished the tournament with a silver medal - an outstanding achievement at a national level.

We congratulate Cruz on this fantastic accomplishment and commend him on his dedication, skill and commitment to his sport.

CIS AFL

Congratulations to Tilly Smith, who was selected to represent CIS in the Under 14 Girls AFL team at the NSW trials held at Lavington Sports Ground on 1–2 June.

Tilly performed strongly throughout the carnival, competing against some of the best young AFL talent from across the state. The CIS team faced tough opposition and recorded a hard-fought victory during the tournament.

While Tilly was not selected in the final NSW team, her efforts and commitment were outstanding. Selection was highly competitive, with only four CIS players earning NSW honours. Representing CIS is a significant achievement in itself, and Tilly should be extremely proud of her performance and the way she represented both CIS and Trinity throughout the event.

Billy Main -  NSW Selection

Congratulations to Billy on an outstanding achievement at the recent School Sport Championships.

Billy produced a fantastic performance in the pool, winning the 50m Backstroke in impressive fashion. In an incredibly close finish, he narrowly missed breaking the event record by just 0.5 seconds, highlighting the quality of his swim.

As a result of his strong performances throughout the championships, Billy has been selected to represent New South Wales at the School Sport Australia Championships, which will be held in Melbourne at the end of July.

We congratulate Billy on this well-deserved achievement and wish him all the best as he prepares to compete against the nation's best swimmers in Melbourne.

National Honours for Roman and Seleyne Ilievski

We would like to congratulate siblings Roman and Seleyne Ilievski on their outstanding achievements in baseball, earning opportunities to compete on the national and international stage.

Seleyne has been selected in the NSW State Baseball Team after helping her team secure a State Championship title. The team will travel to Lismore from 20–26 June to compete at the National Championships, where they will face the best teams from around Australia.

The stakes are high, with the national champions earning the opportunity to represent Australia at the prestigious Little League World Series in Los Angeles. Should her team qualify, Seleyne would become only the second Australian female player to compete at this level, an extraordinary achievement.

Not to be outdone, Roman has also been recognised for his talent, earning selection in the Under 16 Team Legacy Australian Squad. Later this month, Roman will travel to Nashville, USA, where he will compete against elite international talent and continue his baseball development. Team Legacy has a strong reputation for producing high-level players, including Australia's first-ever No. 1 Major League Baseball Draft pick earlier this year.

These achievements are a testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment both Roman and Seleyne have shown to their sport over many years. The Trinity community is incredibly proud of their success and wishes them both the very best as they represent their teams and pursue their baseball dreams on the national and international stage.
