In Literacy we are continuing to learn about the Etymology of words which is the origin of how words were formed. We have been learning the Latin word 'rupt' which means break or burst and explored how this word forms other words by adding prefixes and suffixes. For example, dis + rupt = disrupt and e + rupt = erupt. There are many other words which we formed using 'rupt' as the base word and adding various prefixes and suffixes.
All students have been enjoying the 'Fluency Pairs' comprehension reading passages which assist with fluency and comprehension. We recently read a fluency passage about the Indigenous 'Sorry Day' which the students found very interesting and this led to a discussion about Indigenous culture and history concerning 'Sorry Day'.

Over the past fortnight, Grade 3 students have been learning about Earth’s natural resources as part of their Inquiry studies. They explored what natural resources are and how they can be classified as renewable or non‑renewable. Students began to develop an understanding of how natural resources and waste are used and managed, and they discussed different views on how this can be done sustainably to care for our environment.
This term in Mathematics, students are exploring fractions and developing a deeper understanding of how they represent parts of a whole.
We are learning to:
Through hands-on activities and visual models, students are learning that fractions must be made up of equal parts, and that the denominator tells us how many equal parts the whole has been divided into.
How you can support at home:
By building these foundational skills, students are developing confidence in understanding and using fractions in meaningful ways.
