Year 10
Last week Year 10 students embarked on their senior years program with an Introduction to VCE and VCE-VM with Ms Ferry and Mr Ovens. Mrs Barry introduced VET subjects which will be explored more in the next few weeks.
The visit to Deakin University Waurn Ponds showcased many pathways to tertiary education through the joint Gordon and Deakin presentation. Students got to experience the campus feel within a large lecture theatre, campus tours and workshops from a range of areas including Architecture, Engineering, Criminology and Cyber Security. In June and July more work will be undertaken in Connect sessions as well as a VCE Subject Expo, Parent Information Night and Subject Selection interviews.
Three Year 10 students commenced their Geelong Manufacturing Council program last week with an official welcome and presentation of high viz jackets. Tom Wilson (Geelong Future Leaders of Industry) and Hope Schlotz and Libby Garnsworthy (Girls Leading Advanced Manufacturing) will be visiting many of Geelong’s advanced manufacturing sites over the next few months, including SNF, IXL, Loomtex, VIVA and more. Manufacturing in Geelong brings in just under $10 billion to the economy and employs over 11 000 people locally. We look forward to hearing of their experiences in the field.
Alisha Bhatt also started her WOW Government and Business program which will see her visiting major national public service areas like ATO, Worksafe and COGG.
A huge thank you to our local organisations like Skilling The Bay and Geelong Regional Local Learning and Education Network for offering these amazing opportunities.
