Level 3 & 4

Week 6, Term 2

🌱 LITERACY

This week in Reading, we will explore Chapter 4 of our mentor text Storm Boy. Students will practise retelling key events and answering comprehension questions to deepen their understanding. We will also make meaningful connections to Reconciliation Week, discussing themes such as respect, connection to Country, and shared stories. This will help students build empathy and a broader understanding of Australia’s history and cultures.

In Writing this week, students will continue to follow the writing process as they work towards publishing their information reports about The Coorong, inspired by Storm Boy. They will revise and edit their drafts, focusing on structure, factual detail, and clarity. This process helps them develop research and writing skills while deepening their understanding of this unique Australian landscape.

You can support your child in participating in the Premier's Reading Challenge by encouraging regular reading at home and talking about the books they’re enjoying.

You can help your child notice and discuss informative texts they come across in everyday life, such as signs, brochures, or articles, and how these texts present factual information clearly.

🌱 NUMERACY

In Numeracy this week, students will complete their addition unit by solving worded problems and reviewing key addition strategies. We will also complete a post unit assessment. Students will then begin exploring mapping, data, and statistics. To support this, they will examine different types of maps—such as bird’s eye view—and make connections to Storm Boy by studying maps of The Coorong.

At home, you can support your child by exploring maps together—such as local area maps or online maps of The Coorong—and discussing features like directions, landmarks, and bird’s eye views to build their spatial thinking and connection to our class learning.

🌱 CBL

This week in CBL, we will continue to explore our Big Idea of Diversity. Students will continue their five-session rotation in designated CBL groups, each delving into a different chapter of Australian history. Together, we will explore the cultural groups that have shaped modern Australia, including First Nations Australians, British settlers, Asian migrants during the Gold Rush, post-war migration from Italy, Greece and Germany, and more recent refugee communities. Through this journey, students will develop a deeper understanding of Australia’s rich and diverse cultural fabric.

You can support your child’s learning by discussing their own family’s cultural background and exploring stories or media that highlight Australia’s diverse communities.

Wellbeing

This week in Wellbeing, our Cyber Safety focus will be on Lesson 06 – Is it ever okay to lie? Students will explore the impact of honesty and consider when and why people might choose to tell the truth or a lie online. In Respectful Relationships, we will continue with Lesson 3:2, which supports students in identifying and managing strong emotions in social situations.

🌿 REMINDERS

🌱 Please assist your child in ensuring that their iPad comes to school every day, fully charged.

🌱 Check that your child has headphones which work and connect to their iPad.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA

Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.
