Year 11 and 12 Exams have begun and will continue to to the end of next week in the Exam Centre
Last Wednesday 4th June, 30 female students visited Melbourne Convention Centre to discover career pathways in many growing and critical sectors of Victoria's economy, in traditionally male focused industries. Students engage with tradies, apprentices and industry professionals, providing insight into career pathways where females are underrepresented. There were hands-on experiences, engaging displays and supportive conversations.
20 students interested in the Health Industry were given a tour of Bairnsdale Hospital, Monash Rural Health. Students were informed of pathways into different careers within the hospital and also tried some hands-on resuscitation.
It was fantastic to see our senior boys rewarded for their efforts, taking out 1st place as the first team (school) across the line in the 17–20 age group. A well-deserved result, congratulations to Alex, Campbell, Patrick and Tayden.
VCE VM
This fortnight all Year 11 VCE-VM students are running workshops for their peers based on their VET subject. Students had to plan, prepare, communicate, resource, and facilitate their workshops, and they have done a fantastic job so far.
VET IT students ran a gaming competition with games they had created and coded themselves. The competition was HOT. VET Childcare students took us back to our younger days with playdoh making. VET Hair and Beauty talked us through designing face painting techniques. VET cookery guided us through making delicious pizzas.
Some of the upcoming workshops include:
This has been an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills and depth of knowledge that they are acquiring within their VET subjects, plus it has been a lot of fun.
12 Food Studies
Yesterday Year 12 Food Studies students made Sweet Plait Bread, it took a lot of skill to make the dough, the custard filling and following a diagram on how to plait their bread. Well done, the end results were amazing!
On Thursday evening 5th of June Bairnsdale Secondary College was proud to host a Drama Gala Night in the Forge Theatre. Performances ranged from Year 7 through to VCE and presented a variety of styles and techniques. Jane from Year 7 kicked off the night with a fantastic performance entitled ‘The Box’ using Neo Classical dance combined with Mime techniques. This was followed by a variety of highly entertaining Year 10 students who answered the question, “What happens after, happily ever after?”
The second half of the evening focused on our VCE students who were inspired by their stimulus entitled, “Unless.” Year 11 students explored how people in power react to global crisis, the idea of conscription and the glorification of war. The final performance of the night was an astounding 21-minute long play, created and performed by our Unit 3 students Caitlyn, Jara and Amber entitled ‘Disaster Ahead’ which focused on the question, "What happens if we stop caring for our present?”
Bairnsdale Secondary College staff wish to congratulate the students on their amazing work and thank all those who attended. We look forward to future performances.
Now the weather has become cold if you require any help with College uniform, please contact the hub.
