A brand-new table tennis table has been added to our College, and Year 8 students are absolutely loving it! It has quickly become a popular spot during breaks with friendly matches and lots of laughter filling the area. It's great to see students having fun together.

Our Year 8 students got hands-on in their science classes with fish dissection. They explored internal anatomy up close, taking a closer look at the respiratory system in fish and learning about biological systems in a fun (and slightly smelly) practical lesson. What an awesome way to bring their learning to life and spark curiosity!
Students had the chance to watch Miss M perform a sheep pluck dissection to further understand the respiratory system. The demonstration included the lungs, heart, and liver, showing how these organs work together to keep the body alive. Students were fascinated as they got a close-up look at real anatomy in action.
It was a wonderful surprise when Ashton and Ahren arrived at our Hub with freshly made egg and bacon muffins for staff. The thoughtful gesture brought big smile and full bellies. What a great way to start the day. A big thankyou to the boys and their kindness!

Year 8 at BSC!
Written by: Sonny, Joey, Flynn and Tully
This year, 2025, we have become a year 8’s at Bairnsdale Secondary College. So far, this year has been filled with many interesting and fun challenges!
Sport has been a common theme at BSC with the annual swimming carnival taking place in week 3 of term 1, with Tambo taking out the win. Team sports have been quite frequent and have consisted of friendly competition with numerous neighbouring schools.
Although there have been a lot of sporting events there have been plenty of other opportunities for our school community to come together. School camps, year level assemblies, Reconciliation assembly, ANZAC Day, music concerts, IDAHOBIT day and many, many more!
What’s Happened in Term 2 of Year 8

So far, it has been a huge term for everyone in Year 8. We’ve had so much going on, like the athletics carnival, the Autumn Concert, and so much more. Let’s take a look back at it all.
The term started off and everyone came back to school refreshed from a holiday and ready to get stuck into their school work. Soon, we had events popping up left, right, and centre—with the police talk informing us of things we need to know, then the athletics carnival letting all our top athletes shine, and then we had the Autumn Concert, letting musical talent give everyone’s ears a delight.
Wow! We had so much happen this term. Overall, I think that everyone participating did great during these events. I think it’s safe to say that Year 8 has been busy during this term.
In 2025, Year 8 has been busy.

So far, many things have been happening, including heaps of sport. In Term One, we had the school swimming carnival, and from there, some students moved on to higher levels with more competition. Other events in Term One were district cricket, the GRIP student leader conference, district volleyball, and cross country. Everyone who participated in these events did very well—some even progressing to regionals.
The first four weeks of Term 2 have been just as action-packed as Term 1. Some sporting events have been regional lawn bowls, where the senior girls’ team won and progressed to state. We also had our Year 8 girls’, senior girls’, and boys’ teams make it to regional volleyball, where they played very well but had no success. Our school held their athletics carnival, with many students competing and doing very well. Some students also did volunteer umpiring, where they helped at the primary winter sports days. Recently, we also had some enthusiastic runners compete at the district cross country, with some making it to regionals.
Other non-sporting events were the police visit, Autumn Concert, Do It for Dolly Day, the Reconciliation Assembly, and subject selections opening. The first half of Year 8 has been jam-packed with lots of fun events, and we can’t wait for more.
