Highlighting 7K

Ms Hutchinson and 7K
Ms Hutchinson and 7K

7K have settled in well to Year 7, with many students forming new friendships both within and beyond the classroom.

ENGLISH

In English, students recently completed an engaging author study on Margaret Wild. They explored a range of her picture story books, analysing themes, character development and motivations, as well as the role of illustrations in storytelling. Students shared their insights through written Reading Response tasks, demonstrating thoughtful connections and reflections.

As we approach the end of term, the class has moved into a unit on poetry, where they are now preparing to perform selected poems, building confidence in oral presentation and expression.

MATHS

The wonderfully responsible 7K had a fantastic time in math class investigating Statistical questions. After diligently taking notes on different definitions, the class of 7K was posed a question:

What distance could they throw a paper plane?

The data they have collected will be used throughout our exploration of Data Analysis. Reviewing skills such as: finding measures of centre; and, discovering new graphs to represent numerical data. Graphs like stem-and-leaf plots and dot plots.

SCIENCE

The Year 7 students have been learning about forces in science over the past few weeks. 7K built some mini catapults to apply their understanding of how levers use multiple forces to get a job done, in this case launching a mini marshmallow.

HUMANITIES

This term, Year 7 students have been exploring the world of Ancient Egypt. We’ve been learning about the significance of the Nile River, the role of Pharaohs, mummification practices, and what daily life was like in ancient times. Students are building skills in source analysis, research, and historical thinking.

ART

Students explore the technique of artists such as Matisse's and Dali's work and how their artwork fits into historical contexts and other influences and inventions that helped create the style.

HEALTH/PE

In our Year 7 Respectful Relationships unit, students have been exploring the concept of identity by creating their own 'Identity Islands', inspired by the movie Inside Out. Each island represents key aspects of who they are, such as family, hobbies, values, and culture. This creative activity encourages self-awareness and celebrates the unique qualities that shape each student’s identity.

Governor-General Visit

On Tuesday Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia met with the Year 7 student Leaders, myself, Raiven and Harrison.

I felt very appreciative of her visit. She said she wanted to see the improvement of our school.  We came away feeling very proud of our school and the points she made.
