Wellbeing

My Daily Dot Program
This term, Deborah Rohde, a Creative Arts Therapist and community artist has been facilitating a series of small group workshops on the daily dot wellbeing practice. Her workshops encourage mindfulness, feelings of awareness, and self-expression. The focus is on process rather than outcome, helping children connect gently with their inner world in a supportive and non-judgmental way.
The daily dot workshops use water colour paints and paper to help students explore their feelings over a period of time. It is a deceptively simple, accessible mindfulness practice with positive, cumulative and measurable outcomes. A small watercolour dot is created each day that represents how we feel in the moment. Over time a simple, clear record of feeling moments is created. Mindfully observing our feeling state contributes to increased self-awareness. Self-awareness can support effective communication and self-regulation which empowers us to take responsibility for our own lived experience.
An important aspect of the Daily Dot Practice is distinguishing between feelings and emotions. Encouraging students to focus on their feelings in the moment helps develop awareness in the present moment. This can support emotional regulation by creating space to notice feelings without becoming overly attached to or invested in them.
TPS offers small group SEL sessions to students intermittently throughout the year, alongside our whole school SEL program. These groups are facilitated by practitioners, often as part of their postgraduate studies or in the early stages of their career. Small group SEL sessions focus on topics such as emotional literacy, self-regulations, problem solving and communication. If you feel that your child would benefit from participating in one of these groups, please contact their classroom teacher.
