Celebrating Learning

Unit Focus - TERM 2

This term in Unit Focus the 5/6s have been investigating chemical science. They have been looking at states of matter and how substances can change states. This can be due to a chemical or physical process.

Changes in matter can be classified as either reversible (melting, freezing, evaporating) or irreversible (buring, rusting)

As part of the scientific process students have focused on observing and classifying changes. They engage in many experiments including making Oobleck, skewering balloons, making soda geysers and slime and using thinking tools such as Predict, Observe, Explain to help classify and organise their ideas and understandings.

‘It was really fun to learn about chemical science and how reversible and irreversible changes happen. My favourite experiment was making slime’ Elodie A 5/6B

‘Unit Focus was really fun. I’m glad we got to make slime. I think all the kids enjoyed it’ Leo C 5/6 B

TarraWarra Museum Excursion

On Tuesday the 3rd of July the 5/6s visited TarraWarra Museum of Art in Healesville. As part of the experience we were taken on a tour through the We Are Eagles exhibition and given some background and history to some of the artist and their works that were on display. We also took part in a drawing workshop and dance workshop where we performed a choreographed piece at the end.

‘Dances at TarraWarra Museum made it fun and interactive and I learnt a lot on our trip’
