F-2
This fortnight, the Foundation students caused kernals to steam using heat which caused a physical change. The students watched the gas leave the bags and listened to the POPPING as the kernals expanded. We then got to eat the crunchy, salty popcorn and discuss what happened! The 1/2 students got to do the Mentos and Diet Coke experiment. We wrote the experiment and made predictions. We then went outside and tested the chemical reaction. The Diet Coke fizzed and foamed, and we discussed what happened.
Year 3-6
This fortnight, the 3-6 students have continued to further their understanding about Chemistry. This fortnight, the 3/4s made lava lamps using food dye, alka-setzer, oil and vinegar. The chemical reaction allowed the students to calmly observe the lava blobs moving. The 5/6s are continuing to develop their volcano projects. They have digitally planned the plans and now they have been engineering the volcanoes using playdough, cardboard, bottles, paper machete and tape. The 5/6 students will test their experiments in the coming weeks.
School Values Certificates/Whole School Assembly
This week, these two students will receive a STEM award for showing all school values;
Nirbhi K from 12C

FOUNDATION:
In our Foundation sessions, we have been using different tools to create print in art.
Students used wooden pens to create scratch art, and also explored the use of watercolour paints.
GRADE 1/2:
In grade 1/2, the students have been continuing making a mixed media collage of a sunflower. They have been using their fine motor skills to scrunch and glue small pieces of tissue paper onto their flowers. The Grade 1/2 students have started to create a paper flower, made out of a paper plate and sheets of paper. We will be painting and assembling these next week.
GRADE 3/4:
In grade 3/4, we are beginning to explore landscape art. Landscape art involves drawing or painting outdoor scenes—like mountains, trees, oceans, or cityscapes. For kids, it’s a fun and imaginative way to explore the world around them. We are focusing on perspective, colour and line.
Students are finalising these drawings.
GRADE 5/6:
In grade 5/6, the students are creating a background scene for their apple. Some students have chosen to design backgrounds such as farms, trees, boxes or supermarkets. They are working so hard on these and I cant wait to show them to you once they are finished!
Physical Education [PE] is a tremendous way to get students active while also teaching them important life skills, improve their physical health, and develop a love for being active.
During PE, students will:
- focus on fundamental skills [e.g. running, catching, balance]
- play games to reinforce the skills
- foster social skills
- celebrate their efforts, building confidence and a love for sport.
Each session will have a:
- warm-up activity to get their muscles ready
- skill development activity
- fun game - teamwork and cooperation.
We have started PE this term by playing students’ favourite games, teaching the skill of running, and for the 5/6s playing Interschool Sports.
FOUNDATION:
Our Foundation students have been learning the names of pets in Spanish! We've been working hard to recognise and remember these words through interactive presentations and shared reading of our audio eBook "Las Mascotas" (Pets).
These activities have supported our long-term memory and helped us build strong word associations. To reinforce our learning, students completed fun puzzles where they cut out pieces and matched pictures with the correct Spanish words for each animal.
Fantastic effort, everyone—¡bien hecho!
GRADE 1/2:
Over the past fortnight, students have been exploring the topic of animals—especially FARM animals—in Spanish. This has sparked some fun and thoughtful discussions, like:
- Who has the most pets at school?
- Who enjoys having a variety of animals as pets?
- Who dreams of having pets one day?
- And who prefers not to have pets at all?
After all, not everyone is ready for the big responsibility that comes with caring for animals!
GRADE 3/4:
Our Year 3/4 students have been expanding their Spanish vocabulary by learning the names of stationery items—everything you might find in a pencil case! ✏️✂️📏
They’ve been working on how to:
- Name common objects like rubber, pencil, scissors, and more in Spanish
- Use the correct indefinite articles: changing el to un and la to una
- Choose between un and una based on the gender of the noun
- Build full sentences using the structure:“En mi estuche, tengo un/una…” (In my pencil case, I have a…)
Students have enjoyed putting their knowledge into practice by describing the contents of their own pencil cases in Spanish. ¡Buen trabajo, chicos!
Grade 5/6
Our Grade 5/6 students have been diving into the world of school subjects in Spanish! They've been learning how to express their opinions and have meaningful conversations about what they enjoy—or don’t enjoy—at school.
Throughout this unit, students have learned to:
- Name a variety of school subjects in Spanish
- Say whether they like or dislike a subject using “(No) me gusta(n)…”
- Ask others about their preferences with questions like “¿Te gusta…?”
They’ve done a fantastic job using these phrases in conversations and written work. ¡Buen trabajo a todos!
School Values Certificates/Whole School Assembly
This week, this student will receive a SPANISH award for showing our school values; Misha J—PREP B
