We are halfway through term 2, and what a busy and exciting time it has been. So far, this term has been full of rich learning experiences, new discoveries and growing confidence and independence among the students.

We would like to thank all the families who joined us in the Simultaneous Story time last Tuesday for our reading of The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel.

LITERACY

In Reading, students have been working on developing their comprehension skills through multiple exposures to the texts. We are also focusing on improving reading fluency by practicing reading aloud with expression and accuracy. To support comprehension, students have been working on key strategies such as predicting, inferencing, summarising, retelling stories in their own words, identifying the main idea, and understanding the sequence of events. These skills help them become thoughtful and independent readers.

In Writing, students had the opportunities to write a range of  text types including narratives and information reports. Students created their own imaginative stories by using various prompts. Students have successfully written their own narratives by creating their own plans, brainstorming settings, problems and resolutions. The stories have been wonderfully imaginative and showing a developing understanding of how writing can be used to entertain others.

Systematic Synthetic Phonics

To continue building our phonics knowledge through the Little Learners Love Literacy program, students have been learning new digraph and trigraph sounds such as air, are, ere, and s vs es plural suffix and learning to apply them to read and write words with growing confidence.

NUMERACY

In Maths, students have been introduced to various addition and subtraction strategies. Students have been developing their understanding of using strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems such as count on and back, split strategies and double facts.

SEL/INQUIRY

To continue with our Inquiry focus of ‘past and present’,  Students have been learning to recognise what has changed and what has remained the same. Students learnt about and compared different means of transport and communication in the past and the present.

Please engage your child in conversations about the different means of transport and communication you used in the past and be a part of their inquiry process.

In SEL, Students have been learning about how to be respectful and show respect to others while playing or using online games and apps . Students have been engaged in conversation to keep the esafety rules in mind that they have learnt about in term 1.
