Term 2, Week 6
We are looking forward to celebrating Milo's Birthday, tomorrow!
We encourage our Prep students to dress up as their favourite character from the book. Where possible, please use items you already have at home to create the costume. We kindly ask that the costume reflects a character from the story—so no Elsa or Bluey this time!
Please look at the picture below with your child for some inspiration:
In Topic, we built the bridge from 'The Billy Goats Gruff'. Thank you for collecting recycled materials for us, we were able to have so much fun designing and creating bridges with your generous contributions!
This week, we have been learning about all things Milo's Birthday Surprise related! We have made paper planes for Peter the Penguin and we have started making Party Hats for Milo's party.
We have also been learning about mass. We have learnt about heavy and light and practised by hefting objects from around the classroom. We even practised making two objects 'equal' on the scales, using our shoe as one of the weigh
Last week, we used our knowledge of capacity to try to figure out how much was in each of Miss Dunn's, Miss Mortlock's and Miss Floyd's cups.
Literacy
We’ve now learned the most common sound each letter of the alphabet makes! In the coming weeks, we’ll be revising these sounds and building on our skills by reading words with four sounds. To kick this off, Prep students will begin adding 's' to the end of words to show plurals. Sometimes the 's' sounds like /z/ (as in 'bugs' or 'pans'), but we’ll be learning to consistently write it as 's'. Over the next two weeks, we’ll be reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Gingerbread Man. We will learn two new Heart Words, 'for' and 'her'.
Mathematics
In weeks 7 and 8, we will be revising capacity and mass and begin learning about statistics and probability. Our measurement lessons have been lots of fun and we are all enjoying the hands on nature of these lessons. An opportunity to support this learning at home is to enjoying cooking together and talk about all the ways you are using measurement during the process.
Topic
In week 7, we are going to continue exploring different construction materials and build a bed for Goldilocks that is 'just right!'. We are also going to choose an appropriate material to design a picnic blanket for the characters to enjoy a picnic together on.
During week 8, we are going to be baking our own gingerbread men. Please let your classroom teacher aware of any dietary requirements. We are really looking forward to this!
Our Respectful Relationships for the following fortnight are focused on Positive Coping; 'How are you today?' and 'Calm time'.
Well done to this fortnight's Maths Challenge winners - 1/2 Murphy (again!!) Please find next week's challenge below!
You may like to use your own playing cards to help solve the problem. Once you have solved it, then write/draw the answer on the back of your challenge card.
