Sport/Phys Ed News

Loddon Mallee Region Cross Country

Congratulations to Thomas A, Sonny R, Max H, Jed H, Lenny M and Taj W who represented Spring Gully Primary and the Sandhurst Division at the LM Regional Cross Country on Tuesday. This event featured the best distance runners from North West, North Central and Central Victoria and was held on a particularly challenging St Arnaud course.

In an amazing result for our school, Max (3rd), Jed (8th) and Sonny (12th) all finished in the top 12 of their respective age groups and have now qualified for the School Sport Victoria - State Cross Country Championships at Yarra Glen later this year. Outstanding achievement boys.

Lenny (16th), Taj (17) and Thomas (25th), also performed brilliantly in their respective races and should all be very proud of their efforts. Awesome effort!

Division Hockey/Soccer Championships

Good luck to those students who will be representing S.G.P.S in interschool team sports over the next few weeks.

Our Girls hockey team will play in the Division tournament tomorrow at the Central Vic Hockey Complex, whilst our Boys and Girls soccer teams will play at the Epsom/Huntly Reserve next Wednesday.

Students in these teams have been informed of their selection and further information (including consent/payment) can be found on the Compass Parent Portal.

Hot Shots Tennis Clinics

As part of Phys Ed this term, all students will be participating in three Hot Shots Tennis Clinics. These clinics will be run by Jim Widdowson (Spring Gully Tennis Club Coach), and will take place at the Spring Gully Tennis Club courts during your child’s usual Phys Ed time.

There is no cost for the clinics as all expenses are covered by our Sporting Schools grant.

The students will be walking to the tennis courts for their sessions. All equipment is provided, however students may bring their own racquets if they wish. They will need to ensure that they have their drink bottles and suitable footwear. As we will be leaving the school grounds, all students require consent via Compass. We request that all families complete this as soon as possible if they have not done so already.

Music News

Grade Five and Six Students in the spotlight! What have we been up to in music?

This fortnight, Grade 5/6 students have continued developing their music technology skills on BandLab. They have focused on using the drum machine feature and have composed their own original grooves.

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE – Week 6

The purpose of this lesson is to demonstrate how adding open hi-hats can enhance your drum grooves. While closed hi-hats are great for maintaining a consistent rhythm, open hi-hats give drummers the ability to accent specific moments within a continuous groove. Once you have recreated these grooves, try creating your own unique drum groove with a modified open/closed hi-hat pattern of your choice.

Learning Intention: We are learning about open hi-hats and how to use them in BandLab.

Success Criteria: I can create an original drum groove with a modified open/closed hi-hat pattern of my choice.
