Principal's Report

Movie Night Success
Many school community members braved the cool weather on Tuesday night when they watched Wonka. Although numbers were lower than last year, those in attendance enjoyed the night. Thanks to Parent Club for putting this event on and volunteering your time on the night to run the canteen. Thanks also to Mr Lidgett and Mrs Hamilton who helped set up, ensuring the night was a success.
Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Assurance Program
The OHS Assurance Program (i.e. audit) ensures schools are managing health, safety and wellbeing, consistent with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic).
Our OHS audit was completed on Monday and our school received a score of 97%. This is particularly pleasing as the state average for Victorian schools is approximately 60%. Well done to all involved in this audit, particularly Mr Smith and Sonia.
School Council Summary
Our May School Council meeting was held on Monday. Many items were discussed and/or ratified, including:
2024 Annual Report
The 2024 Annual Report has now been through the quality assurance process and has been approved DET. We will make this available on our website soon.
Enrolments
We currently have 426 students enrolled at our school. The projection for next year is currently 415. This is based on capping our 2026 Prep intake at 57 and having 68 Grade 6 children graduate.
Staffing News
Mrs Effie Hamilton returned from family leave at the start of Term 2 to resume her role as our Music teacher. Mr Chris McClellan returned from personal leave at the start of Term 2 to resume his role teaching groups of Grade 1/2 students.
Different Journeys
Different Journeys held their first ‘Carers Cuppa’ on Friday, 9th May. They will now look to run another session like this. A date/time will be advised once it is known.
Education Week
Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria. This year we celebrated Education Week from Monday 12 May to Friday 16 May. This year’s theme Celebration of Cultures highlighted the diversity of our communities and the importance of every child feeling safe and welcome at school.
Mother’s Day Breakfast/Gift
We had terrific support from our staff once again during the Mother’s Day Breakfast recently. Their participation is always voluntary and is greatly appreciated. We served approximately 500 meals. We will once again run the same activity for Father’s Day later this year. Mrs Leed was acknowledged for the work she put into the Mothers’ Day.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences will be held in the second week of next term on Monday 29th July and Tuesday 30th July from 3.30pm-7.00pm. Booking details will be made available in a Compass alert soon. Please keep an eye out for this as our teachers would welcome the opportunity to discuss the progress of your child/children at this time.
Semester 1 Reports will be released via Compass on Thursday, 3rd July.
Prep Enrolments 2026
If you have a child who will be attending Spring Gully Primary School in Prep next year, you are most welcome to enrol now.
Prep enrolments for 2026 close on Friday, 25th July. Parents will be notified of the outcome of their application within a week of the closing date.
Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS)
The AtoSS is currently underway, with our students in Years 4, 5 and 6 getting an opportunity to provide feedback to the school. This is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist us to gain an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. The survey will be completed by the end of next week. Participation in this survey is voluntary.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The NRW 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.
Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.
Further information about NRW is available on the Reconciliation Australia website. https:// www.reconciliation.org.au/our-work/nationalreconciliation-week/
