Week 6 Term 2
Welcome back to the Grade 3/4 page!
A reminder that you can contact us if you have any queries, questions, concerns or most importantly... positive feedback! Our team (and emails) are as follows;
Well done to this fortnight's Maths Challenge winners - 1/2 Murphy (again!!) Please find next week's challenge below!
You may like to use your own playing cards to help solve the problem. Once you have solved it, then write/draw the answer on the back of your challenge card.
MATHEMATICS
In Applied Mathematics, we’re exploring the concept of probability. Students are learning to make predictions and analyse outcomes through hands-on activities, such as investigating the results of tossing a coin.
In Problem Solving, we are developing our understanding of fractions. We are learning to model fractions using diagrams and number lines, compare and order them, and solve open-ended problems using reasoning and strategies. An important focus is also on explaining our thinking and justifying our answers.
LITERACY
Our literacy focus this fortnight has been on diving into our novel, 'Wonder'. We have looked into analysing characters and shared our thoughts about the characters, setting and plot. We’re learning to explain what we like or dislike using examples from 'Wonder' and organise our ideas into paragraphs to help others understand the story. We are also revising how to recognise adverbs and adjectives in context, building our vocabulary and understanding of how language works.
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING
In our Upstander lessons, we are learning how to be Upstanders by working together on group projects that promote kindness, inclusion and support. Through class discussions, real-life scenarios, and a group challenge to create an “Upstander Classroom” poster, we’re exploring ways to stand up to unkind behaviour and include others. We are also creating a personal pledge to show how we will help make our classroom a kind and respectful place.
In RRRR, we’re learning to recognise and respond to different types of problems by exploring how they can be small, medium, or serious. Through interactive activities, we practised identifying the size of a problem and discussed how everyone may see situations differently. We also talked about when to seek help and the importance of using our personal strengths to take positive action when something feels wrong.
TOPIC
As part of our learning about empathy and inclusion, we are exploring what it’s like to live with a disability. In one activity, we wore blindfolds while completing simple tasks to experience some of the challenges faced by people who are blind or have low vision. This helped us reflect on the importance of understanding others’ experiences and finding ways to offer respectful support when needed. We also conducted a school-wide audit to assess accessibility for people using wheelchairs, and we’re excited to share our findings with Mr Trezise!
GUGU
We’ve continued to celebrate our wonderful achievements with fun and creative classroom rewards! Students have enjoyed crazy hair days, “anything but a bag” challenges, casual dress days, and some well-earned free time.
