Last week Primary gathered in Jiloa to listen to the National Simultaneous Storytime reading of The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel. The reading had been pre-recorded and presented by children's laureate Sally Rippin (author of well know series Billy B Brown and School of Monsters). Before Sally read she shared the following:
"All kids can be readers... They need to find the best way to share stories for them. They may like to read books on their own, or they might like somebody to read aloud to, or maybe they might like comics or graphic novels, or maybe you might like audio books, and these are all really important ways to share stories."
This was a wonderful reminder for everyone, an encouragement of what reading involves and the joy that it can bring.
Listening to the story was a great way to end our day after the fun and excitement of Cross Country.
"Some cats are house cats.
Some are apartment cats.
But Tinka is a truck cat.
Tinka lives everywhere."
Information about National Simultaneous Storytime
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. It is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Kinder to Year 6.
We are delighted to inform you that Devonport Christian School will be participating in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments again this year.
