ASCENSION OF THE LORD - 1ST OF JUNE
What is the Ascension?
The Ascension is the event, where Jesus arose into heaven, at the end of his time on earth.
Jesus' time on earth began with his birth. It was interrupted for three days by His death on the Cross. On the third day after his death and burial, Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, an event we call the Resurrection. He spent the next 40 days preaching and preparing His disciples to perform the work of preaching and baptizing all people. At the end of this 40-day period, Jesus ascended into heaven. We call this the Ascension.
The most important concept about the Ascension to understand is that Jesus is always with us even though He is not present physically.
PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Breathe into me, Holy Spirit,
that my thoughts may all be holy.
Move in me, Holy Spirit,
that my work, too, may be holy.
Attract my heart,
Holy Spirit, that I may love only what is holy.
Strengthen me,
Holy Spirit, that I may defend all that is holy.
Protect me, Holy Spirit,
that I may always be holy.
Amen
PENTECOST - 8TH JUNE 2025
In the Gospel reading for the Ascension of the Lord, Jesus promises that His disciples will be “clothed with power from on high. This power comes from the Holy Spirit, giving us courage just like the first disciples received at Pentecost. They bravely spread the Good News, even when faced with danger.
WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION?
Our students have been learning about the Church and the Holy Spirit.
In Foundation, students have explored the concept of belonging and learned that many different people are part of the Church community. From Year 1 to Year 6, students have retold the story of Pentecost, discussed how the Holy Spirit is with us today, and recognised Pentecost as the beginning of the Church. The images below showcase some of the wonderful work our students have done as they discover more about the Church and reflect on how they can use the gifts of the Holy Spirit to help others.
