From the Classroom - B5

With such a busy term there is a lot going on in B5!
Students in B5 have continued to challenge their thinking in Reading, analysing texts and developing detailed reading responses that clearly illustrate their thinking about a given text. This week, we have been looking at 'Geronimo' by David Walliams. Students have focused on understanding the decisions characters make in books and why. They use evidence from the text, such as quotes or events, to describe what this tells us about a character and justify their thinking. This will further support students when completing a reading response on their own select texts.
Since the beginning of the term, students have been working on developing their own narrative, after carefully selecting a genre to inspire their ideas. A motto in our classroom, and across the Brady Building, has become 'quality over quantity' with students focused on developing well thought out characters, settings and events that are appropriate to their selected genre. We are close to finishing our incredible pieces, with students revising and editing their work to begin publishing this week.
In Maths, we have continued to focus on the topic of probability, using the language of chance to justify and describe the likelihood of events occurring. This week, we will further develop our understanding of this area through completing chance experiments and recording our findings. You can urther support your children at home by asking questions that have an element of chance and asking them to justify their thinking.
What is the chance that:
- you will ride a motorbike to school?
- your dog will tip over their water bowl?
- you will brush your teeth before bed?
- you will make your bed in the morning?
- you will playing sport on the weekend?
- you will visit a friend's house tomorrow?
