Principal Report

We are now well into the term, and student progress in learning and wellbeing is evident across the school. At ARPS, we have a tiered approach to supporting student engagement in learning and accommodating cohort and individual student wellbeing needs. One way we do this, is through a ‘Universal Supports’ (or ‘Tier 1’) approach across all classes.

These universal supports are activities for students that are proven to help increase engagement, boost wellbeing and create a positive class culture. Activities included in universal supports includes regular ‘brain breaks’ and ‘movement breaks’ across the day. It is always wonderful to see students having a quick ‘dance’ or snack between activities during the day, especially when I visit the classroom 5 minutes later to see all the students deeply engaged in their next learning task.

Working Bee this Friday 1st March    4pm-7pm  (BBQ at 6.30pm).

We are hoping for a large turnout of families to help with our after school Working Bee tomorrow. There is a lot of sorting and clearing of storage rooms to occur (indoor tasks) along with gardening including:

  • Clearing gutters
  • Weeding
  • Hedge trimming
  • Vegetable garden tidying
  • Spreading of mulch
  • Tidying the garden learning space to the north of the classrooms

And so much more!

We look forward to seeing lots of families helping out at school tomorrow afternoon-

to have a great looking school for your children to thrive in!

Thumbs Up

< To the large number of families this week who attended a Meet and Greet interview with a 2024 class teacher (or specialist). The staff enjoyed the opportunity to meet their student’s parents, to find out what the common areas are to work on improving for the children. The home-school partnership is just so crucial in making sure we see widespread improvement in all facets of academic progress and social and emotional wellbeing.

< To the Year 6 students who represented our school at the first interschool sports event for 2024, today. What a great effort and fabulous sportsmanship from all students.

< To the large group of parents who attended the Foundation information afternoon session in the ARC on Monday afterschool. It was wonderful to be able to have you all onsite, in the classroom and able to share information and respond to ‘on-the-spot’ questions about ARPS Foundation year programs and processes. We hope you enjoyed some yummy sausages from our brand new BBQ (thanks to the PA fundraising team from 2023)!

What are your favourite things to do at Albany Rise?

I asked this question of some year 5 students who I had the pleasure to teach this week. Here are some of their responses:

My favourite thing to do at Albany Rise Primary School; First I love going to school to have fun and play soccer. Second, I love to go to school to learn and be smart. Third, I like going to school to meet my friends. - Ben

I like P.E. because I like to run, also to play dodge ball. I am interested in L.O.T.E. because you learn Chinese, which is a fun language. My favourite thing in Albany Rise is you can learn a lot of knowledge which will help you throughout High School. The main thing about it is having fun in class. You get to discover new things. - Maksim

Hi! I would like to tell you what I love at ARPS.

The first thing I love is playing outside. I love hanging out with friends, chatting and just playing. They always just help me, encourage me and they will cheer me up when I am sad.

The second thing I love is doing class activities so that we can share what we did. And why I like it is because that we can know each other better and we can share our feelings with others.

The third thing is Maths. Maths is my most favourite subject. When I do maths, I learn more (I'm not really good at my times tables).

The last thing is that I really love my teachers a lot. That is Miss K and Mrs Johnston. They help all of our classmates, teaches us and really be kind to everyone. Of course I love every teacher in this school.

I LOVE MY SCHOOL - Doris

My favourite things to do at ARPS- Art and PE.

As I walked into the room my eyes were filled with colour. It was amazing. Mr Redfearn was telling us to sit down on the floor so I did what he said. I was so used to the Art room from last year! - Meiliya
