SUN, FUN, AND RIBBONS GALORE: PRIMARY SWIMMING CARNIVAL
We just had our annual Primary Swimming Carnival!
Although, it didn’t completely go to plan, with the Year 1 and 2's remaining at school due to the extreme weather forecast. We really missed them and we are looking forward to making it up to them!
As the mercury soared, the importance of sun safety was super important. Thankfully there was plenty of shade and with hats, sunscreen, and plenty of hydration in tow, everyone was set to give it their best.
It was a day filled with excitement, laughter, and healthy competition as our students proudly displayed their swimming skills. Each race was fiercely contested as students represented their houses with pride.
Ribbons awaited those who demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship throughout the day. Our swimming carnivals are not just about winning, but about fostering teamwork, resilience, and a love for outdoor activity.
Thank you to all the staff and student helpers who make days like this possible. A big thank you to Mr Broecker who put so much effort into this awesome day!

FROM MUSEUM TO STAGE: EXPLORING TITANIC'S LEGACY THROUGH DRAMA
By Courtney White (Secondary Teacher)
On Tuesday 6th February, the Year 10 Drama class travelled into the Melbourne Museum to see the Titanic exhibition. Their task in Semester 1 is to use the sinking of the Titanic, the circumstances surrounding it and the prescribed structure, as stimulus in devising their own play and presenting their ensemble performance.
Most students were aware of a ship that sank in the 1900's, however, it wasn't until they experienced the exhibition that they understood the effect it had on thousands of people and the significance of the event on world history.
Students read about the lives of the individuals in all social classes, including the crew, on the RMS Titanic. They saw many real-life possessions that had aged over time at the bottom of the ocean realising that the Titanic is now a time capsule of a once opulent, and prideful string of decisions in maritime history. For it was the pride of those in charge; those who had the power to preserve the some 2,240 passengers on board, that was most prominently communicated through the exhibition.
Students mused about the tragedy, looking over the sepia photos of women, children, men, and sailors, yet what seems to be burnt into their conscience is the icy display at the conclusion of the exhibition. Icy hand prints; a symbolic remnant of the 1500+ souls lost to the North Atlantic.
It is now the job of the Drama students to determine who was ultimately at fault for the demise of the iron maiden by exploring their prescribed structure. Watch out for further information on play dates and details.
BHCS 'CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY' MUSICAL - YOUTH LYREBIRD AWARD WIN
Late last year, 19 members from the BHCS community went along to the Youth Lyrebird Awards ceremony, an event that celebrates and recognises outstanding up and coming talent in the Performing Arts. Kate White and Jet Rushton-Smith (aka Willy Wonka and Charlie Bucket) represented the school beautifully, presenting a number of awards throughout the night.
The audience were treated to some incredible performances from several nominated schools and, having received a record breaking 11 nominations, the BHCS 2023 musical 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' was mentioned throughout the ceremony - a huge testament to the talent and dedication of last year's cast and crew.
We are very pleased to announce that our head Oompa Loompa, Chris Aggromito, took out the win for the 'Best Ensemble Performer in a Youth Musical'! With so many accomplished schools in the running we are beyond proud of all of our nominees and want to congratulate Chris on this huge achievement.
