Inquiry
Big Idea: ‘How does where I go to school influence my sense of belonging?’
Global Goal: Good Health and Wellbeing
This term in Inquiry, students will explore the question, ‘How does where I go to school influence my sense of belonging?’ They will explore this question through the lens of Global Goal 3, ‘Good Health and Wellbeing’, where they will analyse physical, social and emotional factors that contribute to their overall wellbeing; specifically, their sense of belonging.
Students will begin by reflecting upon the elements that elicit a sense of belonging in themselves, considering the places in which they feel most comfortable and what makes them feel so content in those places. Their thinking will be transferred more broadly, to consider the context of Glen Waverley Primary School, and how each student is such an important piece of our GWPS puzzle.
Drawing upon the rich diversity that we a fortunate to have in our school environment, students will explore and celebrate differences. They will deepen their collaboration skills and enhance their ability to consider alternative perspectives. Students will transfer their learning to consider how they can create a sense of belonging next year, as they continue their learning journey in high school. Students will have the opportunity seek advice from GWPS alumni and use their voice to drive their learning transfer, ensuring they are equipped with the skills required to support a smooth transition to high school.
If you wish to support your child’s learning in Inquiry this term, you can:

- Normalise that a range of emotions may be associated with transition.
- Share your experience learning about different cultures and contexts.
- Celebrate differences in your home; these may include festivals, trying new foods, or having respectful discussions when opinions are different.
