Swimming Carnival

Years 7-9 attended our first ever swimming carnival held at the recently redeveloped Northcote Aquatic & Recreation Centre on Friday 23rd of February. The carnival saw the younger year levels along with some keen swimmers compete in the events. The heated pool and the enthusiastic house captains encouraged many students to compete in all events from the get go.

The day started with the freestyle and backstroke races and saw Saunders race to an early lead. After the freestyle races the fun games commenced with water polo shootout and ball scramble in the pool, and spikeball, finska and bocce out of the pool. Students were eager to join in all activities and add to their house points.

Later on the lilo races involved students pushing their house captains up the pool on the inflatables. There was a competitive energy in the air as each captain was determined to win. There was controversy on the winning house as Blair had too many team members pushing the lilo. A disappointing and slow finish for Saunders in last place struggling to reach the end. While Blair ultimately snuck away with the win.

As always, dictating the final scores and the winning house, the last race of the day was once again the iron person race in which the fittest students completed a swim/run/swim. With a sensational effort from Tom Bridgewater who lapped students and won the ironperson race.

After the points were tallied up the end result were:

1st   Nicholls           172 points

2nd  Saunders        169 points

3rd   Blair                132 points

4th   Onus               130 points

Well done to all the students who dressed up and added to the fun of the day. A special mention is deserved to all of the house captains who coordinated the dinosaur costumes. Congratulations to all the students who will be going through to the next stage as well as all students who attended and participated on the day. We look forward to seeing the entire school attend the Athletics Carnival in Term 2.

Thank you to the photography students for capturing the amazing day and especially all the teachers, staff and house captains who helped to ensure the swimming carnival was such a success !!
