Year 7

Year 7 2024

On Tuesday Jan 30th, we finally welcomed all our new Year 7s as official students of Thornbury High School. It was an exciting and ultimately busy day, with the various highlights including motivational speeches, allocating lockers, learning how to operate combination locks and discovering how to read a High School timetable. With all students attacking these new challenges with purpose and vigour, we managed to get ourselves as organised as possible and ready for the first class of 2024 - Wednesday GOLD period 1.

It is safe to say that from that moment, our Year 7s have come along in leaps and bounds. We now hardly have any lost students, which is a great relief to us coordinators. We also hardly have any students requiring help with their locks, another big relief as it is definitely our favourite job of the year.

It is quite remarkable to stand back after 3 weeks and see how much growth and progression is already evident. Adapting to a new environment and a new and more adult styled educational setting is challenging, with a lot of new names, faces, routines and expectations to manage. For most adults, this would require hard work; for 12 year olds, it requires determination, persistence and enthusiasm. We are seeing those qualities over and over again amongst our Year 7s and we look forward to watching them continue to grow throughout 2024.

Thank you to everyone for all their hard work and support throughout the whole transition process.
