Ryan’s Rambling

Dear Families,

Hope this finds you all well and that the cooler evenings are not causing too much discomfort.

Thank you to the many parent volunteers who supported our Democracy Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser over the weekend. We raised over $1400 for our school, which is a fantastic effort for all involved.  Some of our parents stayed for way past their allocated times, just to make sure the fundraiser ran smoothly. Thank you so much, again to those wonderful people.

Our 1/2 Unit have ventured to the Botanikids to further research their Inquiry Topic of Minibeasts! Over the last couple of weeks, it has been amazing to see the natural curiosity of our young people come to life as they begin to learn the many features of the smaller creatures in the world around us. Some students have been wowing me with technical vocabulary such as ‘thorax’ and ‘abdomen’. Classrooms have begun to house some of the minibeasts our students have found around our school and it's been great to witness some of our parents being literally dragged into classrooms by budding young entomologists, insistent on sharing this learning with them.

Our 5/6 students enjoyed a day out at Werribbee Zoo and yes, I can confirm that the baby rhinoceros, Jabulani,  was incredibly cute. I can highly recommend a family day trip on a weekend, if you get time. Our 5/6 Team are busy learning all about animal adaptations for survival and there’s some very interesting facts about different species coming to light!

Finally, it was most wonderful to have so many of our community members at school this morning for our annual Mothers’ Day/Community Morning. The importance of being ‘in the moment’ with our loved ones is something that we often fall short of. We’re an increasingly distracted society, and the importance of dedicating even a short amount of time just to enjoy the company of each other, we believe, is such an vital lesson for our children.  To our many hardworking, selfless mothers, grandmothers, aunts, surrogate mothers, and all the significant adults in our students’ lives, we wish you a fantastic Mothers’ Day.

See you all next week

Ryan 😊
