Wellbeing

This year we have been fortunate enough to be funded by the government to have a Mental Health in Primary Schools Leader (MHIPS). This opportunity will allow us at St Mary’s to imbed programs and opportunities for our kids to best support their mental health and wellbeing.

The MHIPS initiative has been developed by paediatricians, educators, psychologists, researchers, and teachers with the purpose of upskilling teachers and school staff to increase their capacity in supporting the mental health of students.

So far this year I have been busy completing MHIPS training through the University of Melbourne and working with Mr Ryan to come up with ideas that would best suit our school. We have some exciting ideas that we can't wait to share with the school community.

Last term we used our time to reboot our breakfast club, this has shown to be really positive for our students, starting their day with a nutritious breakfast. We are grateful to have support and donations from the Rushworth IGA, Rushworth Bakery and the Rushworth Food Bank. This term we will be increasing the number of days we offer breakfast club to Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays so we can all start our mornings in the best way.
