5/6 CLASSROOM

English

The Grade 5/6 class have settled well into Term 2 and have begun their learning in English with the 'Black Cockatoo' text, which focuses on the themes of identity, family and Aboriginal culture.

Students have focused on sentence level and text level learning based on sentence structure and expansion, conjunctions, and character analysis of the main character 'Mia'.

Our Daily Reviews are becoming a favourite part of the lesson as students get to revise concepts that have been taught on the previous day, week, month, etc.

Our next text will be 'Dirrarn' which is a follow-on text from the Black Cockatoo and is written by the same authors.

Maths

Our learning in Maths has started with fractions and how we can change improper fractions into mixed number fractions and vice versa. Students have shown fantastic knowledge and growth in this area and have been able to transfer this learning to putting fractions onto parallel lines and will begin to learning about adding and subtracting fractions in future lessons.

Religious Education.

To wrap up our unit on Lent and Easter, students have started working on an assessment project to show what they've learned. We began by brainstorming ideas together as a class, drawing on our knowledge and experiences. Next, students sketched a draft design for their diorama. After collecting the necessary materials, they got to work bringing their ideas to life. Here are a few completed projects from our class!

Our next RE unit will focus on Church and Tradition: Pentecost - Celebrating the Spirit.

Cross Curriculum

Our learning in Cross Curriculum this term, will focus on Biological Science. Students have created a display to showcase their knowledge and as we progress throughout the unit, we will add more learning and information to the wall. At the conclusion of the unit, students will prepare a project to showcase their learning - we will set a date to share these with families.
