Last Monday, we enjoyed a wonderful activity with children and parents as we explored the incredible life of the talented Chilean artist Violeta Parra.
We learned about the songs she composed, with a special focus on "Gracias a la Vida," perhaps the most famous piece in her extensive repertoire.
We also took time to reflect on the things we are grateful for. Some expressed thanks to their parents, others to life, to their classmates—and one memorable thank-you went to chile con carne (because really, who wouldn’t be thankful for chili con carne?).
Afterward, we explored Violeta’s paintings and embroidery. Then we toured the school grounds to collect organic materials that we’ll use to prepare natural dyes for the wool in our next session. This coming Monday, we’ll be trying our hand at embroidery ourselves!
