Play Leaders - Lead the way!
We're thrilled to announce our Play Leader program is starting up in the coming weeks!
This program will see a dedicated group of Year 5 students take on the role of Play Leaders. These responsible and enthusiastic students have successfully applied for these positions and have been trained to help make lunchtimes even more engaging and inclusive for our students in Prep and Year 1.
How will Play Leaders work?
Our Play Leaders will be setting up and guiding fun, cooperative games and activities during lunch breaks. The aim is simple:
To ensure all children enjoy their playtime.
To help students learn new games and develop social skills.
Most importantly, to make sure that nobody feels left out or without a friend to play with.
This is also a fantastic leadership opportunity for our older students, allowing them to develop responsibility, empathy and be positive role models, representing our school values in action.
We had an overwhelming number of students apply, which speaks volumes about the caring nature of our Kingswood kids! We are incredibly proud of all the students who put themselves forward and are very excited to see this program flourish.
Keep an eye out for our Play Leaders in the playground!
A place to shine! - Introducing 'Peaceful Kids'
Great news! We're excited to launch our first ever 'Peaceful Kids' groups at school soon.
This program uses Mindfulness and Positive Psychology techniques to help children manage anxiety and stress and build resilience. Led by Mr Stringer and Mrs Bogicevic (who completed facilitator training last term), 'Peaceful Kids' teaches valuable life skills like self-calming and understanding emotions.
Children will learn practical strategies in small group sessions over 8 weeks. Sessions will be held weekly and each session will run for approximately 1 hour. Each week will have a different theme and learn experience for the students focusing on building positive coping strategies. Please note this is an educational skills-building program, not counselling.
The Peaceful Kids program aims to achieve the following outcomes:
• Lessen symptoms of anxiety and stress in children
• Teaches children to self-calm
• Develop emotional intelligence skills
• Teaching children life-long skills to manage feelings
For this initial launch, our teachers and wellbeing team have carefully identified 20 students across the school who we believe will particularly benefit from participating in this first intake.
We look forward to helping our kids feel more peaceful and confident.
