Celebrating Year 7 Accomplishments

As Term 2 draws to a close, we celebrate the many achievements of our Year 7 students as they continue to embrace high school life with curiosity, kindness, and growing confidence. This term has seen students deepen their learning, form strong friendships, and take on new challenges both in and out of the classroom. From engaging classroom discussions to enthusiastic participation in extracurricular activities.
Speaking of extracurricular activities, As part of a recognition of student excellence, we would like to highlight the recent achievements of two Year 7 students since the start of the year.

At the end of Term 1, I had the exciting opportunity to appear on ABC News Breakfast to share my experiences in the “Next Level Collaboration”. The program I’m doing is the “Collaborative gaming group” where we have to choose a skill out of some options like quiet voices or recognising frustration. After this we choose a game out of mainly 2 options sometimes 3 then we have to use the chosen skill in the game. This program is available to kids who are on the spectrum. The program is now going global with world-wide schools being involved.
While waiting to go live on ABC News Breakfast, the weatherman kindly showed me the cameras which were incredibly high-tech! I even got to use the remote while the weatherman was presenting the forecast, which was a lot of fun. He also gave me a tour of the studio, and I was amazed by the number of screens everywhere. One of the highlights for me was when James, the news breakfast host, commented on my shirt. I've been part of Team Attenborough all my life, so that moment felt really special. And yes— I also pinched one of the chocolate strawberries too!

Marcus Sande - 7J3
My name is Marcus and I’m a competitive ice hockey player. Over the autumn school holidays, I had a hockey tournament (called “Nextgen”). It involved teams from Victoria, as well as Queensland, WA and ACT. At the event I played for a team called the "National Sport Academy" or NSA. Our team had a good run through the tournament, although we unfortunately lost in the finals 5-3. I did have some individual success as I was both the highest point scorer and MVP (most valuable player) for 13s and got awarded a $150 voucher. The tournament was very exciting, although it was a pity to lose in the grand final.
My next event will be the state tournament, where I will be representing Victoria. I am 1st line centre for the team, and my goal will be to become the highest point scorer in the whole country for my age group. One day I hope to play in the Swedish Hockey League as a professional player.
Thank you to the families of these two Year 7’s who have shared their student’s success with our teams. If you are reading this and thinking of a different accomplishment to celebrate for a member of our Year 7 cohort, please reach out to our sub-school team so we can acknowledge their efforts.
We are proud of all examples of excellence being demonstrated by our Year 7 cohort so far and look forward to seeing them continue to thrive in the second half of the year.
