Principal's report

Dr Lisa Vinnicombe

The autumn newsletter opens with a report back on how some of our students joined in the ANZAC ceremonies and tributes that are such a significant part of our society. In our world of many conflicts and much unrest, we feel privileged to be able to take our students to share in some reflections and recognitions and understand the role of ceremony in our community. Thank you to the teachers who organised this excursion.

Our Athletics Carnival was a great success! Thanks to Mr Zhu and the PE team for their great organisation and as always, it was terrific to see the students enjoying a fun day. There are many pictures inside thanks to our on staff photographer, Mr Stanecki, so please enjoy seeing the students in action and above all, really enjoying the day out together with each other and their teachers.

We have had a number of excursions this term relating to specific curriculum areas, so please enjoy reading about these extra opportunities we offer our students. Excursions have become a significant part of the school life at JFC and whilst they take considerable time and effort in the planning, we believe it is well and truly worth it. We strongly believe that worthwhile excursions augment the learning that takes place in the classroom and allow students the chance to learn some independence and work with their teacher and with each other.

We are looking forward to taking the years 7/8 students out on camp in early June and will report back on that experience in the next newsletter. Thank you to the families who have supported the camps initiative and have given permission for their child to attend. Those students not attending camp will remain at school in a combined class. This is not an opportunity for students not on camp to stay home so please ensure that your child understands this and comes to school as usual.

On matters of study and learning - we are moving into the reporting and assessment period mid year and will bre preparing our years 10 and 11 students for that exam period, as well as some in class testing for the lower years. Please support your child in their learning by keeping abreast of what they are doing in class and if there is anything you don't understand, please reach out to our classroom teachers. Year 10 and 11 students will have their own exam timetable so will not be in normal classes during this time. Exact details of this will be publicised over newsfeeds and in student assemblies.

Enjoy the newsletter!
