Book Parade - change of date THURSDAY 21 AUGUST - 2:15 all welcome.
I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy some downtime with a great read.
Today the options for our students / families really are endless. My two favourites are a physical book, which I enjoy reading at home and an audio book which I listen to in the car or whilst walking or doing the housework on a Saturday morning.
Where do I access audio books for myself and family? Thanks for asking.
The town library has a wide variety of online texts.
Ask your child about SORA, details at the end of this page and it's free. ENJOY.
The judging has concluded.
COMMENDATION to Sophie Leys in 2T for her humorous and uplifting narrative
"COCONUT MILKSHAKES"
Congrats Sophie. Sophie's narrative is featured below.
Coconut Milkshakes
Once upon a time there lived a Donkey. One morning, he was on a walk and came across a coconut tree. Then the tree swayed and a coconut fell on his head. Then another and another!
“Monkey, are you up there?” Donkey yelled.
“Yes” said Monkey.
“Come down” shouted Donkey.
“No I don’t want toooooo!” Monkey yelled as she fell out of the tree because a coconut had fallen on her head.
“Hahahaha!!!” They both laughed so loud the tree nearly fell over.
Donkey suddenly had a coco-lishous idea!
“Let’s make coconut milkshakes’’ said Donkey.
“Yes that is a great idea!’’ agreed Monkey.
“First, let’s gather all the coconuts’’ said Donkey.
‘’Then, I will crack the coconuts with my hooves to get the coconut milk out.”
“Next, we will get the ingredients. They are coconut milk, sugar and banana.”
“Come on!’’ said Monkey excitedly, “there’s no time to lose!”
So Donkey put one coconut behind him and tried to crack it. But instead, when he kicked it, the coconut bounced out from behind him and landed in Monkey’s face!
“Oooow’’ Monkey wailed.
“Oops, sorry” said Donkey.
“Let’s try and get the other ingredients instead. Remember what to get?” asked Donkey.
“Yes, it was coconut milk, sugar and banana” said Monkey.
They needed bananas.
“I know where some bananas are!”
“Where? Where? Where?” yelled Donkey.
“In my favourite tree!” exclaimed Monkey.
Monkey took Donkey for a walk then they came to a massive tree. It was filled with bananas!
“Here it is!” said Monkey. “I will climb up and get some.”
“Yay! Yay! Yay!” yelled Donkey.
He was very excited to have coconut milkshake’s and was already day-dreaming about drinking them.
So Monkey climbed up and threw some ripe, yellow, delicious bananas down. But they all got squashed when they hit the ground! So she threw some more down and the same thing kept happening until there were no bananas left on the tree!
“What a pity” said Donkey, “now we’ll just have to find the sugar instead.”
They hurried to the fields where they found some sugar cane.
“How do we get the sugar out of this big thing?” said Monkey.
“Maybe we just pull it out and put it in the milkshake?” wondered Donkey.
“Ok, come on then. Let’s try” said Monkey.
So they went to put it in. But they got it in their eyes and it stung.
“Ouch!”
They stumbled back as they couldn’t see anything and knocked the milkshake maker over and it split in half!
“Oh no!” yelled Donkey and Monkey together.
“Now we can’t have coconut milkshakes at all”.
“What a coco-catastrophy!!!”
There was a moment of silence and then Donkey and Monkey looked at each other.
Then Monkey finally said, “Who cares! Let’s just buy some from the shops!”
In the end they bought two from the shops and for a long time after that they would look back and laugh at their coconut milkshake making adventure.
THE END!

This year the theme is "BOOK AN ADVENTURE"
The Children's Book Council Of Australia celebrates 80 years of Children's Book Week this year, a marvellous milestone of connecting children to story. In the following weeks, we will have lots of fun discussing this theme and how it relates to our reading journey. I look forward to hearing some wonderful insights from the students.
"The library is not just full of books, but also opportunities."
Abbey 2016
This quote was submitted on a library leader application back in 2016.
Abbey explained that the library is not just book shelves laden with books. The library is full of ideas and adventures and opportunities to learn something new, to try something new, maybe to meet someone new.
It's approaching fast, Week 5 in fact.
We have been excitedly talking about our favourite characters in readiness for the parade.
The students have been reminded that if their character is in the movies they must also feature in a book either before or after the movie production.
The book fair is a wonderful way to celebrate Book Week and our love of reading by allowing and encouraging our students to immerse themselves in books.
I look forward to seeing you at the fair.
Eftpos will be available.
FORMAT - students browse the Book Fair and then may bring home a wish list which you may pay online, give cash to your child or come in yourself and shop with or without your child as you may wish to do some gift shopping.
CONGRATULATIONS : 353 students have completed the 2025 Premier's Reading Challenge. This number is over 50% of the student population.
Let's keep it going St Nichs.
The Challenge is steadily drawing to a close for 2025.
End validation date is Friday, Sept 5.
If your child has been issued a note regarding the Challenge please respond accordingly by the due date.
Every Friday we pack up the technology and enjoy chatting to each other, reading, playing games, colouring in and jigsaws. Does anyone have any jigsaws they would like to donate to the library please?
Please note a LIBRARY BAG is the first item on your child's equipment list for the year.
Thank you for ensuring your child has a library bag. I have some spares and will issue these to students next week who have not yet presented with a bag.
LIBRARY BAGS MATTER... Not just some of the time but all of the time.
No food or drink on my books.
Food and drink are for the chooks.
Library bags keep ‘em clean.
Books are cool don’t treat ‘em mean.
Bring your bag every time.
Fill it up and get in line.
Have it scanned and scoot on out.
LIBRARY BAGS
We all shout.
