MOBILE PHONES

Please remind your child that if they are bringing a mobile phone to school, they must hand it into the office at the beginning of the day. They are stored securely and students can collect them when dismissed from class. Thank you for your support with this. Please note that if your child is wearing a smart watch to school, the 'school mode' must be activated during school hours.

PRINCIPAL & ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL APPRECIATION DAY

Tomorrow St Nicholas staff and students will acknowledge and thank our Principal, Mr Flynn and our our two Assistant Principals, Mrs Dunst and Mrs Daley for their tireless work and commitment in making St Nicholas such an exceptional school to work and learn in. Whilst all three of our leaders value and appreciate the privileged position they are in, many would be unaware of the incredible demands and roles their jobs encompass.  As a school community we are very blessed to have such skilled, passionate and dedicated leaders steering our ship to a hope-filled future for all. Their collective expertise, patience, warmth, professionalism and care are second to none, and of course they also manage to bring joy and the perfect balance of light-hearted humour as they connect with staff, students and families. So, on 'Principal and Assistant Principal Appreciation Day', we extend our deepest gratitude to Mr Flynn, Mrs Dunst and Mrs Daley, and we pray for God's blessings as they continue their important work here at St Nicholas.

CROSSING LADY - Shereene Matthews

Last Friday our school was advised that our beautiful crossing lady Shereene Matthews has resigned. Shereene has been manning our school crossing for many years... rain, hail or shine. She has brought joy, kindness and friendship to many students and their families as they begin and end their school day. Often spoiling both students and staff with treats, lollies and home baked goods, Shereene's kindness and generosity is something we have all been blessed to witness. We are forever grateful to Sheerene for keeping us safe and for being an integral, valued and treasured member of our school community. Sheerene will be dearly missed and we extend our love and God's blessings to her as she now takes time for herself and to care for her husband.

On behalf of the school community, our Year 6 students acknowledged and thanked Shereene on Monday with some kind words, cheers and a gorgeous big bouquet of flowers. We really hope to see Shereene pop by from time to time as we remind her, "Once a part of the St Nicholas family, always a part of the St Nicholas family.

Parents and carers, please be aware that the RMS have found a replacement for Shereene, however at this point in time the crossing will only be manned by RMS on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday's. The school will try to have a staff member to supervise the crossing on Tuesday's and Friday's.

STAFF LEARNING AT ST NICS

At St Nicholas school it is not only the students who engage in learning, but also our staff. Professional Development and growth is something that our staff work on constantly, always striving to improve our work and make the greatest impact on student outcomes that we can. In recent staff meetings, and at our Professional Development days at the start of this term, we have dug deep into our data and are working to refine the High Impact Strategies that we use within the learning spaces. Differentiation, Higher Order Thinking Skills and the Retrieval Practice are just some of the focus areas we are working on as a staff. Take a look at our staff collaboratively engaging as life-long learners.

VERITAS

Our Veritas Awards stem from our school motto - ‘Veritas’ - meaning truth. The Veritas Award is awarded to students who have been consistently displaying citizenship, leadership and/or Christian Living. Students receiving a Veritas Award are those students who have displayed our ‘Rules for Living’ in their everyday interactions. We announce our Veritas award recipients at Friday morning assemblies every fortnight. Congratulations to: Lola Gaffney,  Harrison Edgecock, Billy O'Connor, Tayze Gillogly, Henry Young, Wade Breznik, Emily Bui, Harper Hall, Alice Reed, Alyssa Malla, Gabby Leys, Imogen Kidd, Lily Sloane, Adalyn Cann, Max Hodges, Priya Hitchcock and Cooper Gallagher.
